Before entering the coaching ranks Nagle attended school at Marquette University from 1936-1940 and played on the basketball team, lettering in '38/'39 and '39/'40. After graduating from Marquette Nagle enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps where he served from 1940-1944.

• Led Marquette to their first ever NCAA tournament appearnce, reaching the Elite 8 in 1955.
• Ten Time Wisconsin High School Coach of the Year
• Charter Member of Wisconsin High School Basketball Association Hall of Fame
• Only coach to coach teams in the NCAA Tournament, Boy's State Tournament and Girl's State Tournament.
• His five-year coaching record at Marquette was 69-55 (55.6%)
• His best record at Marquette came during the 1954-55 season, when the team went 24-3
• In five seasons at MU, Nagle only played the Badgers one time, a home loss during his first season.

As a teacher at Whitefish Bay, Nagle taught English and coached basketball. In the 80's Nagle served as a scout for the Cavaliers and Mavericks of the NBA. He also served as commissioner of the CBA and published the book “Power Pattern Offenses for Winning Basketball”.
