MU Falls to Florida State, 57-56
ORLANDO, Fla. – Solomon Alabi hit a baseline jumper with 11.9 seconds left, and Florida State rallied to beat Marquette 57-56 to win the Old Spice Classic on Sunday night.
Chris Singleton had 18 points and 10 rebounds for Florida State (6-1), which trailed by 12 points at halftime. Derwin Kitchen added 14 points.
Marquette had a late chance to win, but turned the ball over on an errant pass with 2.9 seconds remaining. The Golden Eagles (6-1) were led by 19 points from Lazar Hayward.
Hayward's jumper gave Marquette a 56-55 lead with 32 seconds left. He had seven points, including a 3, during a 9-2 run that put Marquette ahead 39-22 with 15:38 left.
Singleton's three-point play and a basket by Ryan Reid cut the Florida State deficit to 44-39 midway through the second half. Jordan DeMercy's slam tied it at 48 with 3:48 remaining.
