History
Theiss joined the Marquette staff on May 24, 1989 after serving as an assistant coach at Siena College from 1986-89. While at Siena, Theiss was instrumental in guiding the Saints to consecutive East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) North Atlantic Conference (NAC) regular-season championships in 1988 and 1989. The Saints were 25-5 in 1989 and earned the school's first NAC playoff title and NCAA Tournament bid. Siena advanced to the second round of the Tournament after upsetting Stanford in opening-round action.
Prior to his stint at Siena, Theiss was an assistant coach at Vermont from 1983-86. While at Vermont, he was responsible for the recruiting program and had on-court practice duties.
Theiss was an assistant coach at Plattsburgh State from 1981-83, where he was the recruiting and preseason conditioning coordinator.
Theiss began his collegiate playing career at Delhi State University College and was a two-year captain from 1976-78. He then moved on to Plattsburgh State University and served as a two-year captain from 1978-80. He ended his collegiate career as the Cardinals' second all-time assists leader with 293 assists.
He received an associate degree in individualized studies from Delhi State University College in 1978. Theiss, 38, was graduated from Plattsburgh State with a bachelor of science degree in health education in 1981.
