Sigh, apparently I need to share some information that may not be clear to everyone.  In cases of abuse, which includes invading another person's privacy,  I can, and am allowed to search through the master database for additional information.  This includes personal messages.  (That's all spelled out in the registration agreement)


I don't have a button I can click to find everything, and reading PMs not intended for me is not a pastime of mine.  This might be the first time in ~18 years I've ever looked at the db tables that include personal messages. 

In this case, I found a PM from 2019 where Sultan's full name was revealed, and it mentioned that an "opening salvo" (actual words from the PM) had been posted on the board about him.

A couple years later, the keefe emails went out.  I didn't *really* blame anyone other than keefe, until recently.  But upon seeing that PM today, along with 'the first attack made in a series of actions intended to achieve a specific result', I banned every single user that was included with the message. 

That may seem harsh.  I think a couple of those users were mostly casual observers to the events that unfolded.  However, upon the revelation that several people had been involved in a coordinated attack, I took action.  Not a single one of them said "hey shoot rocky, this has been going on a while, I never thought it would go this far" after the keefe emails. 

I really hope this can be the end of it.  Sorry to anyone that thought PMs were private when it came to abuse of the website.

More surprising that it wasn't keefe that sent that particular PM, but also now makes sense why that user has been gone for a few years.

To be fair, I'm pretty succinct, and that was tl;dr the first two times I glanced at it (especially my parts in in).  I finally read it, and amusing, but tl;dr.

I belong to another travel oriented board. It does have a politics forum. There are people on there that are complete asses. No way I would ever sit down with them for a beer. However, when they ask for travel advice on something I know about, I happy give (good) advice and answer their questions. It is after all a group with a common interests.

In fairness, I don't think I have been in an Arby's since joining this site though....

I should have added that after that story every subsequent story ended with the AI engine killing rocky. I asked why and it started talking about him being all powerful and needing to be stopped.  Then the safeguards kicked in and the whole thing reset.

I've stayed away since my politics ban expired because there was no way I could interact with those oozing aholes within Topper and Rocky's rules, and I had already made the mods jobs harder than necessary. But it's so on brand that the dicks who worked so hard telling themselves that they are the "good guys" were trying to harm people in real life...particularly the one with his prickish certainty of his own moral rectitude.
