They're an excellent team.  The 1st half they played vs Auburn was the best college hoops I've seen this season.  Beating them at Hilton will require our best performance to this point.  And I say that having re-watched the Purdue game.  I'll defer to the Scoop experts, but it seems to me that Gilbert is the head of the snake. We must thwart his downhill drives and points in tbe paint.  I also think handling their physicality and pressure is imperative.  We need to win the turnover/points off of turns battle.

Now the good news, from my eagle eye vision, is that MU did not play their A game vs Purdue.  Defensively yes, but I'd give us a B- on the offensive end.  Tons of missed open looks and chippies.  Ross needs to finish those bunnies in particular.  No need to go 1000 mph all the time in transition.  Gather, plant, score.  As Brew stated, weathering the initial storm is paramount.  But what else do the experts here believe Shaka has up his sleeve?  Can we turn them over and wear them down?  I'd force Gilbert left.

I doubt Shaka has anything "up his sleeve." It's clear that he has faith in his system on both sides of the court, and runs it accordingly.

I am asking the Scoop experts.

Muggsy, MU is going to do MU things.  5 out motion. 3s and lay ups   Aggressive man to man.  Traps.  Occasional zone, switching to man in the middle of the possession.  Token pressure to make ISU start their offense with 21 on the clock.  There are no mysteries if you have been watching.  You can make a reasonable guess as to whom Chase, Stevie, etc. will be guarding.
If MU is able to hit threes and get steals and stops, MU can win.   If Iowa State rides their home floor momentum and are the aggressor, they are likely to win.

Shaka has had MU prepared for every Big 12 opponent since he arrived on campus. Not sure if anything up his sleeve, but they will be ready for action.

So now we know why Shaka almost always wears a shirt with sleeves.

If nothing else, I'll simply trust in the fact that Shaka's cumulative non-con record against Big 12 teams is 7-0 (3-0 at VCU, 4-0 at MU), with five of those seven being against a ranked B12 opponent.

And even if we lose this game, a lot of good should still come out of it. I mentioned this in another thread but ISU's leading scorer, Keshon Gilbert, is basically a carbon copy of Wisconsin's leading scorer, John Tonje. So regardless of whether we succeed or fail at defending Gilbert on Wednesday, the experience and takeaways should prove extremely useful toward being better prepared for Tonje.

WVU is the one I missed. Even better, 8-0. Thanks for the correction!

It's about time amoebas get the recognition they deserve as stellar members of the single-cell organism community.

I read this as Keys v Chones, as in Damon Key versus Jim Chones.

Two cats I never got to see play, but I've heard a lot aboot from you cats and kittens

Anyhow. That Gilbert kid is the perfect type of pg for Marquette to exploit in order to win a big game on the road in a tough environment.
He's fast as heck, can be electric at times, and is fearless.
He also loves playing a bit erratic and coughs it up a ton, and fouls a lot on the other end.
In other words, he's quite a bit excitable and lets the atmosphere get the best of him at times, from what I've seen.

So, I think Shaka will have something cooked up for him, something effective if MU is to win.
I'd imagine a healthy dose of Stewie, and Chase, with a sprinkle of what woulda been Zaide would have probably been the plan, but I'd bet the defense stays at home on shooters like momcilovic and jones and makes Gilbert have to beat them, hoping that our defensive intensity can overwhelm him.

This is where guys like Zaide being out hurts the most. I've heard a lot of Tre being a great defender, and I've seen some good things, but Wednesday might be time for him to step up and prove he can be elite

Starting two orcas, two otters, and a manatee.

If any of them get injured, Muggsy will just introduce ISU to darkness.

-They want to attack directly. Drive to the hoop, transition, post up, putbacks, backdoor cuts. You need to force them to pass and shoot. They are a bad shooting team.
-Protect the ball. ISU is 99th percentile in transition scoring efficiency. We need to protect the ball like we did against Maryland (another top-10 team in defensive TO rate).
-Get the ball inside. They Suck with a capital S at protecting the rim. Get it inside and we should score with relative ease.
-Pressure them. They haven't faced a single defense in the top-150 of turnover rate. They haven't seen a defense like this yet.

This is the toughest game on our schedule.  It's also the biggest WAB opportunity. Win this and we can legitimately be talking 1-seed from now until Selection Sunday.

Agree with 2-4. Are they really a bad shooting team, though? They shoot the same percentage as MU from deep. It's largely only two guys that can shoot, but they run stuff to get those guys shots and they both can be lethal.

67th percentile on midrange (but only 0.76 PPP, it's an inefficient shot), 44th percentile on drive & kick, 27th percentile on jumpers off the dribble, 18th percentile on inside out.

Marquette (99th/60th/80th/79th) is better on every one of those actions.
