FBI originally reported that violent crime was down 2.1% in 2022. Now they report it was actually up 4.5%.

Why confine discussion of an important topic to a silly and infantile thread?

Exposing the suffering and loss that dental criminals are inflicting upon society - our fellow citizens - is neither silly nor infantile.

But I'm sure you're seeking a sincere discussion of FBI reporting methods, and not at all posting this for silly and infantile political reasons.

The people here who insist violent crime in the US is down cite the FBI stats as proof. It's silly and infantile to point out that the "proof" they they championed ended up proving the contrary?

Anyway, I will point out the only reason the "silly and infantile" thread exists, is because someone decided that it would be a good idea to post about every crime reported around the Marquette campus.

Of course the implication being that Marquette and Milwaukee is a violent place, full of crime.  Of course the irony being that anyone can slice and dice data to make a geographic area...or a profession...look dangerous.

Yes, because you're not posting this out of any actual concern about crime or FBI methodology. You're trying to get your "gotcha" moment. You admit as much.

Also, why are we talking about 2022, when we have 2023 figures?

2023 unrevised figures. What good are figures that a year from now will end up in the trash can?

I'm surprised crime rates would be higher when republicans have more governorships and state legislatures.

I'd like to thank Lenny for starting this thread and correcting the record. It won't undo the bull chit and outright lies some of you guys peddle here, always trying to downplay the serious crime problem we have in this country. Always mocking anyone who wants to discuss these issues truthfully.

Because they almost certainly are a more accurate indicator of the state of affairs in October 2024 than  numbers from more than two years ago.

I'm grateful for all of those who have helped drive crime down in 2023, be they police or the public or politicians of whatever party.

No, he made claims without presenting data. If there were such wild swings year after year, can't imagine results would be presented "early".

Sure, there can be small adjustments — but this was a wild swing. And disgraceful!

I'm not anxious about the national election. I'm not obesssed with politics.

And I 100% meant it. You have proven time and again that truth isn't important to you.

For those who don't know, these stats always increase over time as more data comes in. It happened under the Trump administration as well. Even with the updates, the violent crime rate is near to the lowest rate in the past 50 years.

The 2021, 2022, 2023  violent crime rates (Bidens first three years) have all been lower than Trumps last year. So they still say violent crime is decreasing.  They are also about half what they were in the early 90s despite claims that it has never been as bad as it is now.

This is FOX taking something standard and spinning it to be something nefarious.

And for the record,  I don't think these numbers say anything good/bad about eithet Biden or Trump. Because who is president has a statistically insignificant impact on violent crime rates.
