The father has been charged with manslaughter and second degree murder.  Good.

Very good news.

Why do we need to turn our schools into Fort Knox? Aren't there better ways to prevent these events?

Good.

The kid had repeatedly asked for mental healthcare as well for MONTHS because he had been hearing voices. Denying a child healthcare should also be a chargeable offense.

That's what the thoughts and prayers are for.

Why not both, more secure schools and common sense gun legislation

Truly the greatest threat to kids and one of the most pressing issues in education today.  Thank you for your vigilance

Yawn.  Debunked.  Do better.

If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.

If we prevent the events through non-school security means, we don't need the school security.

Surely there are less invasive, expensive and threatening solutions

There isn't.  More security and requiring teachers to be armed is the solution.

Guns are not going away.  Guns are as American as apple pie and baseball.  Embrace it.

One will not be able to get rid of all guns, knives, etc. Schools still need to be secure IMO.

My 12 year old daughter and her friends have become quite chummy with the deputy at their school. Officer Reggie (looks like Drake per my daughter) will sit with different groups of kids at lunch if there is an open seat at their table. He sits with my daughter's group at least once a week.  I asked her if they engage with him or if it's awkward and she says they all talk to him.

Part of me thinks that's great and part of me thinks it's kind of sad that this is what it has come to, but I am grateful that officer Reggie is there and tries to establish some kind of interactivity with the kids.
