It's a common tactic when it comes to discussions about guns and the slaughter of children to deflect to another subject.  Sometimes it's doors.  Now it's the FBI.

It's also good politics to blame the FBI at this moment for other reasons as well.

My 12 year old daughter and her friends have become quite chummy with the deputy at their school. Officer Reggie (looks like Drake per my daughter) will sit with different groups of kids at lunch if there is an open seat at their table. He sits with my daughter's group at least once a week.  I asked her if they engage with him or if it's awkward and she says they all talk to him.

This is interesting. Maybe it was because I grew up in Metro Nashville, where the intelligence of many of the local constables was slightly less than that of an average salamander, but our view of the police was adversarial and focused on municipal revenue enhancement (aka, traffic enforcement). We didn't know them for the people they were and the commitment to our community they made.

Perhaps your daughter will see the police as more than a nuisance. In turn, perhaps the police will be more sensitive and understanding to Atlanta's youth. You nenver know but I think this is very positive, protection problems notwithstanding.

Doesn't matter.  It's one of dozens of this style weapon available.  It's popular because it is moddable and its reputation.  Banning this specific gun is like banning Chevy Trucks while allowing Dodge, Ford, Honda, Toyota, etc to be legal.

I'm no Vance fan but that's disingenuous.  He called it a sad fact of life.  His overall message lacked empathy but he wasn't flippant.
