This will be my last post on the Parent Message Board, but for those not on the board, this is an example of a parent question:

How large is the waste basket in the dorms? My daughter will be at Mashuda.

My favorite is when parents use "we", as in "We are in Schroeder" or "We need an accounting tutor".

The season tickets that were allotted to incoming freshmen sold out in under 45 minutes.  They melted down the system trying to get in.

Parents on Facebook whose kids weren't able to purchase them are losing their minds and are tossing around words like "inequitable".

I would like to think this means the tarps will never be on seats for any of the games, but that will not happen. It will be Wisconsin and NMD where the students actually fully show.

I remember taking the elevator to the ticket office at the 1212 building to buy my season tickets at Preview. Coach Stephens was on the elevator too.

When I started at MU in 1971, a classmate from high school  came along when my parents drove me up from Chicago to move into O'Donnell. Dont remember now whether at the time I had any idea why neither of her parents took her. We had to drop her at Tower, she wasn't even at the same dorm.

We did the camp out a couple years back then, I helped with it one year and ended up with tickets in the section behind the bench as my reward.

I'm a Gen X and still recall driving up to McCormick sight unseen after traveling 1,000 miles from home. I will never forget my dad looking at me and saying "you are on your own now." Best thing he could have said.

Same. Not 1,000 miles, but otherwise the same. We were big time the latch key generation, and I loved it.  Self-reliance wasn't seen as some sort of amazing thing, it was just how it was.

I flew alone into Milwaukee and caught a cab to McCormick. That was my first experience of Marquette.

One of my kids was a freshman at a B10 school a couple years ago and the parents' FB page was hard to believe. Some of those kids really, really needed to get out from under their parents. There was a second, unofficial one that essentially made fun of the official page -- it was really funny although got a bit too mean-spirited at times.

A few years ago on MU's board, there were parents that thought Marquette should hire crossing guards to escort their kids across Wisconsin Avenue.  Also, that campus should be locked down because a criminal (who had no connection to Marquette) escaped from a correctional facility 75 miles from campus.

I got a million of 'em.

these are kids who are in the generation that takes their parents to job interviews. Please don't give them more ideas, MU needs the revenue from the residence halls.

my nephew at a Big Eighteen school got season tickets for the first semester games due to the demand for tickets. Future allocation was based on his usage of his tickets during the first semester (he ended up with hockey tickets for the second semester).

That's a good way to track it and reward attendance.  Honestly, the student tickets should just be tied to student IDs so kids don't just buy them and then resell.  Free transferring between students should be allowed though.   One non student ID can accompany a student with two tickets so friends can be brought, but one of the tickets has to be a MU student.

It's amazing to me that human beings have this same exact moral panic generation after generation. Parents are too helicopter, kids are too soft. Got it. What else is new the last 60 years?

Having worked in higher education for over 30 years, I can tell you that parents are significantly more involved now in their college aged kid's lives. It got significantly greater during COVID.

I never said that it made kids soft. Many of them are annoyed by it all.

I have a daughter in a private school in Texas and some of the most frequent questions asked by parents of incoming freshmen are "should I get my son/daughter weekly or twice weekly maid service for their dorm", and "can you recommend a good car service for my kid because I don't trust Uber".

I can not wrap my head around the idea that a kid would make the Lincoln Towncar wait because the maid is late.

Makes sense. Gotta know if ice and a case of beer will fit or if the kid needs a cooler to quickly cool some beer.
