TAMU, Knower of Ball

So with Utah St jumping that puts both the MWC and P12 at 7 teams.  Both need to push one more to stay viable.  MWC may need 2 if P12 hits up the MWC again. Who could MWC reasonably go after? New Mexico St?

UNM probably won't support NMSU joining, UTEP is a likely possibility. Reportedly, the sentiment at Montana is not to make the jump. North Dakota State's AD has mentioned the main reason for not making the jump is that there have been no suitable conference options for them. The MWC looking to add now may change that.

UNLV and Air Force reported to being staying in MWC. Said to be incentivized with financial package.

The Hippie Satan of Hyperbole

So now there is a seven school PAC-12 and a MWC with six full members plus Hawaii playing football. Both short of the mandatory eight members.

Apparently feelings are too hurt to just merge so now lawsuits are being filed.

Wonderful work all around.  Especially WSU and OSU for likely flushing all those exit fees (and goodwill) down the toilet.

The MWC is reportedly interested in Northern Illinois and Toledo.

Why? Northern Illinois will pull the Chicago market away from the B10.  8-)

The Thing

Seriously, one win against Notre Dame just put them on the desired list for MWC?

Right? But in all fairness, I believe they played in a New Years Day 6 Bowl in the past decade. They were a top 10 team one year? Am I right?

I mean, what are the alternatives for the MWC?

it's reportedly for football only, so they would have to leave the MAC for the rest of their sports. Where do they go then, the Summit or Horizon League?

You need another cup of coffee Rico. The obvious answer is St. Thomas. Sheesh!

I am low on caffeine.  That win over Marquette should carry a lot of weight

perfect!!...for Northern IL, great skiing not far away at the landfill that is Wilmot. Nice 'mountain' connection, hey.

GoldenWarrior11

Football, even non-power/major programs, continues to drive the realignment bus.  Even without the the B1G/SEC-level payouts, schools will throw out geography and historical associations for a few extra bucks and the false hope of remaining at the big table.  Even more FCS programs will be called up to backfill and more mouths will need to be fed with the D1 revenues and payouts.

D1/FBS needs to be contracted, not expanded.  Each time a conference gets raided, it leaves behind the low revenue programs to backfill with even more low revenue programs while retaining the conference payouts.  At some point, something will have to give.

The Hippie Satan of Hyperbole

It is significantly more expensive to move from FCS to FBS than it was a few years ago. I don't think you are going to see a lot of movement like we did previously.

They are talking to one school about being a non-football member. Not Gonzaga.
