Kind of neat to see a number of long-time posters return to MUSCOOP.  It gives me hope for Marquette Basketball and the renewed interest of alumni and fans.

There was excitement this season, you guys just missed it.

I am the bearer of bad news. Al McGuire is not going to be coaching next fall. The glory days of the '60's & the '70's are not retuning.
There may be a better coach waiting in the wings. I certainly hope so.
At the same time there may be a few players who decide to transfer or not to come to Marquette.
Firing Wojo was most likely the correct path to take. It remains to be seen how positive this change will actually be...

Thanks Debby Downer....

I started following Marquette during the Dukiet era and lived the O'Neill era (all praise to him).

Wojo was Dukiet 2.0 and you could feel it.  I do not begrudge the apathy of alumni and fans the past few years.

A weight has been lifted and I look forward to a new era with hope and optimism.

I understand the concern.  There is always some anxiety toward the unknown.  Those with that anxiety of the unknown just have to ask themselves if they were happy with what was known, i.e. the product of the last 7 years?  Because not making this change was likely going to lead you to more of the same.  I would rather go through life being anxious about what could happen rather than being calm and disappointed.

Now that Wojo's gone, I'm guessing they won't be retiring 0 anytime soon, aina?

Why? He meets all the criteria and more. Great ambassador to the university. More deserving then names up there already.

Hang the Wojo banner next to the Dukiet banner.

Your post has nothing to do with mine. What's the point?

Agree. Not to mention no permanent AD and a brand new President at the time who literally rubber stamped the deal.

Why? Did he score too many points and represent the university with too much class for you?

I kind of wondered how it all happened?  From the outside it seemed like an odd hire given that Duke assistants have a generally poor record as head coaches, and if Wojo was a raging success he would go back to Duke to replace Coach K.  There was not much long-term upside for the program.

I would very much like to see an established head coach as the next hire.  I remain hopeful.

What is it they say about players who get coaches fired?

Howard is the walking embodiment of the Wojo era.

Imagine being such a tool that you hold animosity towards one of the most talented players in school history, who was of only 2 1st team AA from Marquette in the last 40 years, and an all around fantastic kid because you didn't like his coach who had no clue what to do with him

Well, the Howard I'm thinking of got his coach to the NCAA tournament 3 times in 4 years (counting last season).

Please let me know which Howard was on this year's team, the one that got his coach fired.

Are you actually suggesting that a player who wasn't even here this season got his coach fired? Is that what you're going with?

Your weird hatred of our school's all-time leading scorer is destructive for you. Please seek help.

It's OK to admit I was right.

You're right that a player who wasn't on this year's team got Wojo fired?

I guess it was Markus' fault that VCU got COVID-19 canceled, too.'

Woah woah woah - I thought admins didn't make decisions on one game or one season? Inherently, players from seasons prior to last season would be relevant to his current job status. Or was this more smoke out your a$$?
