Sam with that trademark Hauser defense.

The play before that, Miami tried to attack him on a pick-n-roll, but he actually did a decent job. But yeah...defense is not his strong suit.

Lol.  Usually you'd see a player the caliber of Jimmy try to hit Sam hard on the screen to force the switch and then get the ball on the wing and go to work on Sam.  Jimmy knew even Duncan Robinson could get an easy cut to the hoop with Sam, without even trying to hit him with a screen.

Good thing he just wanted to play the game the right way.  Went to a HOF coach.  Wanted to actually play defense like Bennett Ball does.

From a piece in The Athletic talking about the Celtics' season:

Some of the players started to believe Mazzulla prioritized the offense too much, according to team sources. Several veterans wondered why the coaching staff went away from Grant Williams, who had a significant role in slowing down Kevin Durant, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo on the way to the Finals last season. Still, in early March, he received his first DNP-CD since the 2020-21 season. Williams' playing time was sporadic from that point forward and he again fell out of the rotation when the playoffs began.

The coaching staff believed in Sam Hauser's offensive production and felt that because opponents were going out of their way to target him and abandon their own offense, his ability to hold up decently in isolation made him impactful. Mazzulla also wanted to get Hauser more experience to prepare him for the playoffs, believing Grant Williams would be ready to go if his number was called.

But the team's veterans believed Williams would be crucial in the playoffs, so Tatum and Brown met with Mazzulla in early March to implore him to put Williams back into the rotation, team sources told The Athletic.

Shocked that the team leaders had to go to Mazzula to try to get him to play Grant Williams over Sam. Knowing the Hausers just want to win and play the game the right way, I'd have expected Sam to take responsibility himself and give Grant his own minutes.

Mazzula should have kicked those malcontents off the team, a'ina? How dare they usurp his authority as coach? How could mere players (and maybe thousands of fans) know better than an inexperienced, mediocre coach?

Sam and Joe are on the same page. Equal shots for all. Sam and Joe wanted guys like Peyton Pritchard to shoot just as much as Brown and Tatum. Unfortunately Joe have into the chuckers and now the C's will have to find a way to win without guys like Pritchard and have to settle for Tatum and Brown.

makes ya wonder if mazzula was either penalizing grant for his charade toward f'ing butler or felt he could've been compromised by it.  i think maybe a stern lecture about trash talking with one of the best and keeping ones emotions in check accompanied by a little bit of pine time would've sufficed.  then unleash him to see if it worked, but sam?
