No one is panicking.

As of now, the three guys who will mostly handle the PG duties struggle making threes. Could be an issue. But that's a next fall concern.

My bad.  See Hilltopper edited that post.  Didn't realize he nailed Rocket for doxxing

No concerns with Nigels shooting.  He wont be a high volume shooter from 3, but he's very capable of making open looks.  His form is very good both spotting up and shooting off the dribble.

He's definitely a level above Sean and Tre as a shooter.

They make so much money, they don't care what people think, or so I've been told.

Anyway, excited for Nigel James.  Shaka's ability to identify talent has been special

Quote from: Lennys Tap on December 28, 2024, 09:48:18 PMOf course Shaka knows points guards. He knows them really well. I would never say he didn't. You? Who was on the Wojo will make us Duke North bandwagon for 7 years? Not so much. He's very likely at least a little concerned about PG next year BECAUSE he's smart. You think he's never concerned about anything BECAUSE you're not.

So obviously we'll see an addition to next year's roster that we don't already know about, if Shaka is aware of the big concern at PG. Or maybe he'll cross his fingers. But no doubt he's very concerned about the PG position.

Quote from: MuMark on December 28, 2024, 09:46:06 PMIn a perfect world you would love a kid who shot it good or great from 3 and could be a great defender and solid floor general.

Those kind of guys are hard to find.......what I saw from James tonight was very encouraging......against future NBA level talent he didn't settle......he made great decisions.....disrupted the game all over the court and nobody could stay in front of him.

His shot does not look broken to me.....he made one nice mid range jumper( I know I know) and is a good free throw shooter.

There have been very good point guards who weren't 3 point threats.........that's what I saw tonight.

I'm not saying he will be great......but that kid can play.....all he has to do is lean into his strengths and Shaka will help him do that.........and if he does become a dependable 3 point shooter?

Look out.
give me a pg that can break a press, and dish. Scoring no matta if we have a 2 and 3 that can shoot it. I'll take another Tony Miller in a heartbeat. Maybe Nigel will be just that.

Dominic James shot 29% from 3 during his 4 years at Marquette, with his best season being 31%.

I don't think anyone would regret his time here.

There's a lot to like about Nigel's game but I'm definitely taking a wait and see approach. It's really hard for a small guard who can't hit from three. Sean got dared to shoot last year before the injury.

Neither could another James that went to MU.  And he impacted the game just fine.  Sounds like he has everything else required.  His handle is impressive.  That box score looked pretty good.  Was 1 for 3 from 3 as well.

I say a little concerned, you change it to big concern. Little and big are antonyms (opposites), making your post dishonest.

To my point, I'm sure Shaka has had little concerns every year regarding roster construction. Coaches are worriers and get paid big money to do it. He's talked extensively about one of his biggest concerns - team chemistry - and so far it's outweighed any little concerns he's had about his roster. That doesn't mean he's never had any. To think that way is silly.

That's fair, but the game has also changed a bunch in the 20 years since DJ arrived.

I'd obviously love to see Nigel come in and kill it. My optimism is just more guarded, especially after seeing Sean's adjustment to high major ball.

False, scoopers never panic.
Goal is National Championship

Herman Cain

Not worried or panicked about point/lead guard in future. Seems like Coach has plenty of depth at that skill. More concerned about getting folks who can consistently shoot 3 pointers on the roster.

Ian and Michael.
To be concerned at this point seems odd. Shaka and company are addressing it.

Shaka said in an interview that he is very excited to see what Sean and Nigel can do on the court together. If he's excited then so am I.

In this highlight video from one game you can see him catching a lob dunk, facilitating, finishing in transition, and hitting a step back 3. He is good. Really good.

I could be wrong on this, but as far as I am aware it does not seem Shaka is even prioritizing bringing in a point guard in the class of 2026. If that is right, then I think Shaka's level of concern for that position going forward is about as close to zero as possible.

Adam Boyd is listed as a 6'2 combo guard.......he has an offer and has visited but unsure about how much of a priority he is.

I'm fine with Shaka's recruiting. This is the most fun I've had watching MU in a long time.

What is Nigel James' 3-pt shooting percentage on the season? I didn't see any stats on the Long Island Lutheran site.
