When clingnan goes pro next year. Who is the best 5 in the Big East next year?

Samson Johnson, Ben Gold, Fred King, Zuby Ejiofor, Sasa Ciani?

Its not a worry in conference play. I'll say that much.

Kalkbrenner if he uses a Covid year

Why do you say Gold will not one of the best next year?

What reason is there to think he would be?

Calvin:  Nobody thinks I'm a genius.

Well, it does appear that virtually every basketball announcer and analyst is very high on him. In addition, Kolek threw him high praise on the Shaka show.

I have talked with several people that I believe know the game extremely well and all think he is going to be a great college player and will make a lot of money playing basketball down the road.

IMO, he remains a very important piece of the puzzle this year and is an even more important piece next year. I might be in the minority on scoop with this opinion and that is OK.

Assuming Gold returns, he will be the starting 5 next year.   His ability to shoot the three will pull out opposing bigs, allowing guards not as good as TKo to get in the lane and to the basket.

I think his so called struggles this year are due to missing out on two months of offseason work due to shin splints.

Could he be our Frank Kaminsky?

Kalk is already better than Clingan.

Goose, I have stated a few times that Gold is more of a 3 then a center. Yes, offensively he will be fine, but he lacks bulk and quickness which makes him foul to often.  A frontline of Gold, Mitchell and Joplin does not do it for me for many reasons.  Hope Caedin or Parham add some muscle and are good enough to play right away

Well put BC! Middling starting frontline...at best

It won't be Ben Gold!

I'll accept it if it is because "He isn't a true 5 man". He is probbaly a 4. And it might even benefit MU to play him as a 4 man going forward.

I disagree with you if you think he isn't on par or better than those names however. Heck he might be the best of them.
You need athletic players around him to start him at the 5. But he is near the top of that specific list of "returning frontcourt players to next years Big East".

.

I agree that in that group of centers, none are very good but there are more physical then Gold, Offensively he is the best, but the frontline I discussed earlier will not cut it, destroyed on the boards.

Two of my favorite MU Scoop guys, but I have to disagree with you both. I am higher on Ben Gold than I was last year and that is saying a lot. That said, I am going to enjoy every second of this season and not worry about next year until next summer.

Staggering Gold and Joplin is the key. Mostly for spacing and offensive rebounding though. However the "overall" rebounding is less of an issue with Gold than it might seem.

Sample sizes are small but, Marquette's Team Rebounding improves with Gold on the court. Mostly because we arn't good at it without him. But still. We don't play the hardest high major schedule every year. No need to worry 1 year in advance.

Spot on. Gold is gold. Will be a great Warrior.

BM1090

Agreed. And for all his shooting struggles, he's up to 32% on the year.

Rutgers seems to be the Harper pipeline. Harper Jr was good there.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.
