On kon,

Duke Numbers I have heard... 2 year expectation, 250k a year.. family gets airplane flights and access to all home games ~100k or more.

Heard nba readiness and style of ball were key criteria.
Nice to see Duke following the NCAA rules and not using NIL as an inducement for recruiting.  ;D

That is a good amount of coin for a prospect and his family. Shows what we are up against.

so...the days of.... yes, the university will make big cake because you help us win. In return, we give you a full-ride, academic advisors and tutors, travel to fun locations, national tv exposure, team swag. You leave here with a degree and no debt. Deal?  ...are long gone? Silly me!

Lots of numbers thrown around. Most are bogus. Highly unlikely anyone knows other than the family. Anyway, if true, way out of our league.

Are you a communist?  As a fan of the free market and a proud capitalist I think this development is fantastic.   Maybe I'm just more pro-America than you?

If Al played then is the folksy story about Chones a lord of crap or did Al just not have to pay his best and poorest player?

I am pretty sure he got something, but not like what is going on now. If the numbers are correct for Kon, more power to him.  He is no Guarantee he is making the pros, so take it now

to answer your question, I don't support NIL. Especially this wild west version as 'bama coach Nick Saban has alluded to. But I accept that it's not going away, probably changing very little, so let's roll with it. I do support a college kid making $. So, how 'bout we make adjustments? For example, if Kon gets $250k per from Duke, all good. But, he pays his own tuition out of that. What's leftover is his. Then, Duke quantifies Kon's financial impact/team financial impact on the school (revenue gained), makes an adjustment that maybe pays Kon $350k the next season, but no less than the $250k agreed to initially. Kon still pays his tuition, and still keeps the difference. Every player is different, of course. Not all players have the same on-court/off-court impact. Thus, every deal is different. In some cases, the player is on a true full-ride. But, the scholarship, er, 'contract' will have a clause that allows for financial gain should that unheralded recruit become a star.
When I was a student at MU, I was not on an athletic or academic scholarship. However, I left MU with no debt. I'm a free-market guy. I made money while still taking 12-18 credits per semester. I'm all for the cash!! But, if you are accepting a full ride and getting paid, then let's make some adjustments to that.  I know, there's always a flip side...what if I was on a full ride, and still made $? Maybe my scholarship value (cost) would be adjusted based on my declared income. So, though I don't necessarily support NIL, I accept that it's here. But, if it's here, let's get it in the corral and try to tame it to some degree.

The answer was yes. The free market has determined that Kon (to use your example) is worth a free ride to Duke AND whatever he's going to make in NIL money. What socialist nonsense are you championing that you want to limit individuals from legally making money in exchange for their labor?

Some don't consider it "labor." It's love of the game!
