IMO, oversigning is even less reputable than using the portal.   The only way I see it is if Shaka knows someone is going to the league.   In this case, IMO, that someone is Ben.

So, I don't see it.

I get the perspective, but is it any different than last summer? Here was our scholarship table as of March:

Seniors (3): Kolek, Oso, O-Max
Juniors (3): Kam, Stevie, Joplin
Sophomores (5): Sean, Chase, Gold, Itejere, Ellis
Freshmen (3): Lowery, Amadou, Norman

We had 14 players committed for 13 positions. It worked out that Itejere and Ellis transferred, then O-Max went pro and we took Caedin to get us back up to 12, but that certainly wasn't known at the time. Lowery committed in April 2022, Amadou in August, and Norman in September, so from September through March we knew we were oversigned and someone would have to go, I'm not sure they knew who that would be when Norman committed.

Just saying, they could easily take a 14th scholarship and let it work out once we get to March/April next year.

I get it.   And it depends on the 4.  Also, if no one transfers/goes pro, that will be 5 players 6'8 or larger.    Ben, Parham, Amadou, Hamilton, Clark.    With Owens and Miletic not far behind.   I would like 6 guards to go with them.   There is some speculation on the Dodds board that Owens can play guard, but I want to see it.

IMO, if Ward signs, it means that Shaka believes Owens, Miletic, Ward, can function at the 2.   It also further confirms my opinion that Shaka is addressing the rebounding issue by bringing in taller players.

I.always assumed Omax was going to go.

I.always assumed Omax was going to go.

But you’re suggesting that Shaka knew before the season even started that Omar was going ………I don’t think that’s likely ……but we will never know for sure.

I read through the "Norman Commits" thread from September 2022 and no one mentioned "O-Max to the NBA" on their Spring 2023 bingo card. The TLDR; it was a pretty typical Scoop thread, started out welcoming Norman, devolved to primarily an oversigning discussion with some kvetching over the choice, others not bothered and saying it would work itself out, then people tried to salvage it back to "oh wait, yeah, we're here to welcome Tre" at the end.

https://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=63570.0

(And not trying to get anyone else to read it, I really don't care and am fine if we oversign by one, but I looked because I was curious if anyone pegged in real time the departures that ended up coming to pass)

I had said in 22 I thought Omax would be drafted in 23.

Bottom line, I do not see Shaka oversigning.   I have been wrong before.

That's fine, it was just my opinion on what I can see happening.
I don't see any scenario where Marquette carries 4 big men on their 2025-2026 roster, so whether that's Gold going pro or someone leaving for a lower level, that to me seems logical.
I suspect Gold will move to power forward when Joplin graduates.

Cam is very good.   If Shaka lands him, the last scholarship has to be for a PG.   Also, 2-3 years out, look for 1 guard, 4 forward sets.   Quite the change from the last few years.

I really hope Shaka locks Cam in. He is going to be a good one.

I had said in April of 22 I thought Omax would be drafted in 23.

People predict things all the time…….some come true……most do not.

I think the point is it’s not likely that Shaka over signed with the knowledge that Omar was definitely gone.

others not bothered and saying it would work itself out

That's where I was then, and that's where I'd be if Shaka oversigns again.

And kudos to my man Silkk the Shaka for the Omar gif! An all-time great TV character.

There will be a second guard in this class.  Cam Ward will be the deciding factor for signing 3 vs. 4 for 2025.

Cam Ward visit starts today. Need it.

I don't see MU listed by on3, rivals or espn's as an interest.  did we sneak in as a late add-in?

Recruiting sites can be wildly inaccurate.  For example, Nigel James has stated his top four are Marquette, Rutgers, Georgia, and Georgia Tech.  But his 247 profile lists Marquette and Rutgers interest level as "none" and Georgia isn't even listed at all.

They list four schools with an interest level as "cool": Georgia Tech, Louisville, Providence, and Virginia Tech.   They are so far off base on Nigel James, yet they're the only major recruiting site that lists Marquette with Cam Ward.

See, wildly inconsistent.

Rivals has Cam Ward's interest in MU and also documents his official visit to MU.

I find Rivals is the best, but since Militec is not even a Top 150 recruit with them, maybe fell through the cracks.
Each poster has their own recruiting sites to visit/review, so I'll leave it to each its own preference.

Miletic is a late riser in the rankings.  247 just updated their rankings in the last week or so, with Miletic coming in at 102.  But he was unranked for a long time.

As for recruiting info, I use multiple sources and aggregate the information.
