Who's next on the recruiting trail?
« on: October 09, 2014, 12:47:45 PM »
Can barely contain myself for how exciting this morning has been. The 2015 class is going to be something special.  The crazy part is the class still has an open scholarship to use given the one vacated by Gabe Levin. The next big question (now that we have the Ellenson question finally answered!!!!) is who will be the next recruit?

A lot of people talked about Davon Dillard as an option (and the race against Purdue), but BD and others have alluded to dominoes falling after the HE commitment. Who is next to join "The Family?"

This may be posted somewhere else, but are there any other 2015 prospects that are supposed to be in attendance tomorrow at Midnight Madness?  If so, we may have our answer.

I was wondering this as well. I haven't heard much about a list of recruits headed to MM as we only really had one scholly to give, and the guy we wanted to give it to was going to homecoming dance (or just committing early). Should be interesting to see what the guest list looks like for tomorrow.

It's doubtful Stone would show to MM after cutting is out of his list.

The one thing to look for regarding Diamond is that he has set officials to OK State and Maryland the next couple weeks.  Nothing to Duke, UW or UConn.

Might he wait until spring?  Does that open a window for Wojo?

Big Daddy hinted that its another ESPN 100 kid. There are 31 of those left. Of those 31 only 10 have yet to trim their lists:

#2 Jaylen Brown
#3 Malik Newman
#7 Chieck Diallo
#8 Caleb Swanigan
#16 Thomas Bryant
#37 Ted Kapita
#75 Josh Sharma
#87 Melvin Frazier
#93 Shawntrez Davis
#94 Davon Dillard

Dillard used to play on the same AAU team as Steve. Newman and Swanigan played on USA Basketball with Henry. Wojo has been connected with Brown, Sharma, and Dillard.

Only connections I can find. Of course, just because we've been trimmed off a list, doesn't mean we can't be added later.

In light of today's events, check out the dudes at Madness. The answer may very well lie within, hey?

This is gonna be an agonizing 24 hours. Who is on "boot watch?" Can they double that with "recruit watch?"

No it isn't.   The big fish has been landed.   The '15 class is already awesome.   From a recruiting standpoint, MU is in a position of strength.    Even if Wojo does not land another '15 recruit, the 15-16 team is going to be loaded.    Hell, if Wojo decides to bank the schollie for '16, it would be difficult to argue at this point.

not to mention the 200 transfers that will be available come spring.  we will only have 1 senior on the roster next year.

Honestly, I was wondering if he would just bank it. Hauser + another recruit might be better in 2016 than one now. That always depends on who is out there.

Agree.

Bank it for 2016, unless an excellent transfer opportunity presents itself. It leaves you with lots of flexibility to react quickly to an opportunity that might arise.

That said, if Diamond decides he is interested in MU again, you obviously make an effort.

It looks pretty obvious that Wojo is going to try to use it.

Well then I really hope it's one of the guys that TAMU listed!

Here's why I'm ok with that. If you can get a top 100 commit it's better then hoping to try and get 2 for 2016. As they say. One in the hand is better than two in the bush, and if it just so happens to be Jaylen Brown (which in reality I highly, highly doubt) then there really is such a thing as WojoMojo.

I don't think coaches think this way anymore or maybe ever. There is so much influx with players and recruits that you fill all your scholarships now and let the rest shake out later.

No I don't.  It's Big Daddy's post.  If this announcement was done with timing in mind (just before Madness), other dominoes are falling, still looking at Dillard (and others)...

If Wojo was banking this for 2016, the timing wouldn't have worked out like this.

Gotcha.  I took this quote (from the Ellenson thread):

Don't be too sure that Dillard is the guy Wojo is looking at.  There are others.

and the one in this thread as an indication you knew who Wojo was after.

I think WOJO should go hard after Stone and Sharma nad completely mind fook Vadger nation.  I think it could seriously cause some of them to go insane of they committed to MU.

Well I saw that someone changed their name to put "Dillard" in it.

He did capitalize Family. And mentioned dominoes (or...stones).

Wojo and the Family Stone?

In all seriousness, how big of a priority would Stone be at this point? With Fischer, Heldt and HE, will we need another big (yes, I know and accept that HE does not play like a typical big)? Might Wojo have other desires for that open spot? Is Stone such a 'sure thing' that you go for him regardless of the make up of the rest of the roster? I think I recall decent points on both sides of that question.

We have in the next class the following:

a 5 a4 a2 and a1,   what are we missing?    Stone is going to UCONN and not UW and not MU.
