Man, everyone here sure changed quickly. Just two weeks ago we all loved Buzz' "genuine-ness" and "honesty" and "story". Now, he's just some backroom bum that never did nuttin around here.   Please.

Didn't see the presser, but sounds/reads like he said the right things which is nice. Will try and find it online.

I agree.  Everyone acts like Buzz was terrible.

Guy was one of the best coaches we had since Al.

I can't speak for others, but I agree--he's a good coach.  But that's Buzz.

We're talking about Brent.  Brent is a phony.  He is a used carsalesman with a worn-out shtick.  Brent is all about relationships.  Networking.  Brent looks out for two people: Brent and future Brent.

and Buzz still has some folks still fooled :)

Hi Willie!!!
We know you are a slurper. Is your boy still Buzz or do you prefer Wojo?

BTW, how do you feel now about your stud Buzz with the stuff coming out now about Steve Taylor, JJJ and Du. Wilson? Buzz was a dork.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind.

Did I miss something?

The guy has a press conference and now everyone is on his knees with mouth wide open. How many coaches have blown an introductory press conference? Name them please.

This hire is an infield single...not a home run.

Well, he didn't start any chants, so that's a good start.

How can you possibly say that RIGHT NOW? Unless, you have a crystal ball, you cannot say with certainty whether this is a good or bad hire. Beleive it or not, Shaka might not have worked out at MU for one reason or another--would he still be a great hire in hindsight? It's just such a media-influenced, silly statement.

I'm curious, if Wojo has a tremendous amount of on-court success at MU, does that make him an infield single still? I'm sure you thought Buzz was a bunt out in 2008.

Howland was a home run. In an age of parity, back to back to back final fours don't lie.

I missed the part where he went to back-to-back-to-back Final Fours for Marquette. These coaches are not one size fits all, brother. MU did their due diligence and if they didn't like what they saw in Howland, I trust their judgment. The hiring committee is privy to a whole host of factors that we are in the dark on.

And clearly, you missed the point of my first post.

Are you bobbing for apples or...

If one size doesn't fit all, then it sure as hell is hard to stuff marquettes hole with a duke's pole.

I thought it was interesting Cords specifically mentioned he talked to Jerry Colangelo as a reference for Wojo.

I thought Buzz was a foul tipped bunt with 2 strikes on presser day 6 years ago. I learned a valuable lesson and will give him some time to prove himself with the players on the court and on the recruiting trail.

At least he wore a tie representative of the school's colors and not some stupid pin in his first media appearance since getting hired.

Not just talked to him. It sounds like Jerry called Cords specifically to talk up the job Wojo has done with the national team. I was astounded by that.

A guy who lost control of his team is a Home Run?

I remember a discussion I had with Chicos after UCLA lost in Howland's last year. He lost that team much worse than Buzz lost this year's team.

I had always respected Howland and thought he was an outstanding coach. But that UCLA team was as badly coached as any I've seen. Now, maybe that was due to having guys like Shabazz on the squad, but it was basically just a bunch of guys out on the playground.

May have just been an aberration in Howland's career, but after seeing that, I wouldn't want him here.

Those things are not at all uncommon.  The guy I coach club volleyball with was applying for an assistant women's coaching position at Cornell University (solely because he wanted to get a free doctorate from Cornell) and asked John Speraw, the current USA Men's Volleyball National Team coach and UCLA men's volleyball head coach to call Cornell on his behalf.  If the top coach in the USA is calling Cornell University for their women's volleyball assistant coaching position, former NBA owners calling Marquette University for their head men's basketball coaching position is not a huge surprise.

Wojo is my team's coach. So I guess he is my "boy."

But I still appreciate Buzz's service. He gave me 5 of the best years of Marquette basketball that I have been alive for. He is the best Marquette coach that I have been alive for.

Tom Crean is the second. I'm not sure why we feel the need to bash our former coaches.

I'm not crazy about the hire, but I think he's done great in this presser and its easy to be genuinely happy for him.

Well said

Warrior_2002

He may not have been impressive behind the mic, but he seemed pretty genuine. Hopefully we have found someone who finds a home here much like coach K found in Duke.

For the First press conference as a head coach, he did well.  I expect more of his personality to show up in future press conferences, when he gets comfortable.  24 hours ago, he didn't know he'd be doing this press conference and this is a huge crossroads for him and his family.  His decision just changed their futures.  Hopefully he can take Mayo's surplus of energy and use it on the defensive end.
