Good game last night.Seymour played well and won by 10.Very well coached team.I believe Cohen should redshirt his  first year to gain strength.MU should have enough depth without him.Cody had a tough game, but you can tell he is a shooter.

JWags85

Totally.  I mean it absolutely hurt Kevin Durant his freshman year at Texas cause he lacked strength (couldn't do a single rep of 185 bench).

There is only room in the state for one program that redshirts top 100 kids, unrelated to injuries.  If Cohen can play, he can play, regardless of initial strength.

While I agree in principle, this isn't football. You don't redshirt freshmen just because you can get by without them. You don't want to become the program that redshirts all their freshmen

Jamail and Jake were shooters. Todd and Duane were both shooters and scorers. Juan and Derrick could score (at the high school level at least) but I don't think they arrived with reps as great shooters.

This is how I remember it as well.

So what happens to these kids when they get to Marquette?  How can they lose their ability to shoot?

There's a huge difference between HS 3P defense and Big East 3P defense

Jamail, Jake and Duane were regarded as 3-point shooters coming out. The others no.

There is no competition in these games. aau is a better indicator I this kids ability, I think a redshirt year would be wise to bulk him up.

I watched the game last nite also with interest on Cohen.    I thought he was by far the best player on the court.  Has tremendous athleticism, is strong, can shoot the 3 and unafraid of challenges at the hoop.  He could be the starter next year, or at least find playing time.

Again, size and strength does not dictate playing time if a player is capable.  He will be playing next year if he is ready for some meaningful minutes.  Sandy appears to have plenty of ability, and he's proven himself in bigger games.

He also blew up on the aau circuit, but we should forget that because he's a h.s. senior that's not on a D1 workout plan yet.

He also will probably show up on campus in June, which will give him plently of time to go to weight room.

Texas Western

There is no question this kid has all the raw tools necessary for success. Let's wait and see how he adjusts to the next level. I remember many years ago Michigan State recruited a kid like this names Gerald Busby, had the same kind of game and size. he was from a small school that played in Class D.  the game at the Big Ten level was just too much. The kid left after a semester and ended up playing d2 and had a very good career.  I am not saying this will be the case for Cohen , but let's give him space to grow before hanging can't miss or he is going to contribute as a freshman labels on the kid.

tower912

I think that would be a good idea for ALL recruits.   Be patient.   Don't judge too early or harshly.   Remember the wise words of St. Al McGuire.  "The best thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores."    I try to not expect anything from frosh, so I am pleasantly surprised.   I made a mistake thinking Duane would come in and be the starting PG from day 1.   Freshmen happen.
