he's getting paid chicos...and from the vibe you give off on here...i'd think you'd realize that's all that matters ;D  well that, and he'll have some really impressive names to drop.

Does anyone know the specifics of his deal?

Having only seen Buycks at Marquette, I will admit that I am surprised he was able to receive a contract from an NBA team.

He obviously worked very, very hard and improved a ton. Congrats to him!

He didn't qualify because of a f*ck up at his high school.  My recollection was that he was fully qualified with regards to ACT, but didn't take the correct number of core classes for NCAA eligibility because of poor counselling.

I wouldn't say poor counseling as that absolves an individual of personal responsibility. I would say it was a counselor who made a tragic mistake that essentially cheated a deserving young man of a life changing opportunity. Though it worked out in the end it added complexity and difficulty to Buycks' challenge and the end game could have been markedly different. In the real world this person would have been held accountable. In a public school system the NEA was likely there to make the counselor out to be Jeanne d'Arc. I'll bet the incompetent fool is still ruining the lives of other students with impunity.  The NEA - Amerika's very own Politburo.

To be fair, such things are not just associated with the NEA.  Some CEO's have bankrupted more than 1 company, but will still get hired for millions to run another.  It is possible, that the counselor was new and simply made a mistake, hopefully they never do it again.

I will agree though, that some aspects of the way the NEA works is a problem.  If individuals are incompetent they need to be removed. At the same time, it used to be if a student was doing poorly, the parents yelled at their kid.  Now, if a student does poorly, they yell at the teacher and ask what is wrong with them.  In such a climate, we have to find some way to protect teachers who challenge the students and aren't afraid to fail those who aren't keeping up.

It really is amazing. If Vander makes it (or Jamil, though he was sitting out technically) that team could've put together a starting five of all NBA players. Makes the Sweet 16 look even a tad disappointing.

G: Buycks
G: DJO or Vander
F: Butler
F: Crowder
F: Wilson
I know you're probably kidding about that team being a disappointment, but I dont think Buycks makes the NBA if he doesn't play for Buzz. GTST lasted for him years after. Also (just because its summer I'll go here), none of these guys make the NBA if they go to Madison except for Crowder. When Jimmy got here people thought he was a waste of scholarship. Buzz brought in potential and maxed it out. That shouldn't be an argument against him that he did "less with more."

Your logic, ignore hypocrisy when you see it and it happens here all the time.  Should we go through the threads where OMG MU didn't go past the Sweet 16 because they had 3 NBA guys on the roster or whatever it was.

I don't ignore it.

And again, I'll take it more seriously when you dole out equal feigned outrage when it is done by others.

Here's an opportunity for you.   http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=39249.msg504947#msg504947

Obviously, I don't have the time or energy to go through every thread and be the hypocrisy police.  Plus, isn't that your self appointed mission?

The problem is that you are the one that starts the Crean stuff most of the time.  Why are you obsessed with defending him on an internet message board?  We all know your stance, and there is zero chance that you pointing out the hypocrisy of others on the board is going to change them.  Yet you keep on doing it.  I accept that Crean did some great things for MU... others will always point out his faults more than his strengths.  I just don't see the point of defending him all of the time.

Honestly, its a good thing you don't listen to talk radio in Chicago as a Chicago sports fan.  It would totally consume your life trying to change idiots minds.

There's nothing on the Raptors website about the signing. I haven't seen anything beyond Twitter feeds and a Real GM post reporting this. Anyone find anything official?

DB finally getting a chance he really deserves.  Why?  because in his final year at MU he played PG.  Unfortunately Vander didn't stick around for same opportunity and may never get this chance.  Well done Dwight!

I love that he's getting paid.  Again, I'm happy for him.  Makes me wonder why certain people here were so defensive about McNeal being labeled in the NBA....well, no it doesn't make me wonder why as we all know why.  ::)

Nevertheless, I'm merely pointing out the incorrect assumption made here.  According to the NBA you are considered a NBA player when you are on a roster once the season starts, which is exactly where Dwight will be.  Awesome for Dwight, awesome for MU.

In the last 10 years some amazing young men have been in that situation

Jerel McNeal
Jae Crowder
Wes Matthews
Dywane Wade
Steve Novak
Lazar Hayward
Jimmy Butler
Travis Diener
DJO

and very soon, Dwight Buycks

This from my NBA counterparts that I shared earlier.

Question:  "When is a player in the NBA officially considered a NBA player by the NBA.  If they play a preseason game?  If they are on a regular season roster?  Do they have to actually play a possession?"

ANSWER:  "That person is considered an NBA player as he made the team.....regardless of whether he plays or not, he will still be in the records on a regular season roster.  As long as you are on a regular season roster, you are a player......regardless of whether you ever played a minute.  As long as you are on a roster, you are considered a NBA player.  Nothing to do with playing time."

Still won more ball games..  ;)

When?

It has been great beating up on the Badgers the last couple of years, and will continue to be great while we continue to do so in the future.  It was also great watching the druggie Marshall Henderson knock the Badgers out in round 1 while we were playing to go to a Final Four.  More of that to come...

and consistently fail to meet/exceed expectations in the ncaa tourney.  as long as bo is on your bench...you'll be good with not chance of greatness.  plus you'll have an arrogant prick for a coach.  we know how that feels having crean around.  always pulled for bucky when bennett was on the bench...bo's a jerk, and his arrogance/work ethic pertaining to recruiting will always hold bucky back.

Our regular season production is usually about equal to MU's, but with the same or most post season success, so I don't follow your logic. As far as this past season, that was a miracle coaching performance by Bo, to even win 20 some games. As for the poster who asked when, I was referring to the 10-11 season and 11-12 seasons combined. Anyways, congrats to buycks, must have improved a lot. Congrats on all the future victories against us too! I'm sure you'll win 10 straight or something  ;)

I wonder what Buycks would have done if he could have been our primary two this year instead of playing out of position at the one. He has plenty of athleticism, quickness, and a solid outside shot. I know some (cough, willie warrior, cough) would instantly shoot this down, but it wouldn't shock me if he could get to the D-League and eventually get a cup of coffee in the NBA. He definitely tailed off majorly later in the season, but with a refined game, I could see him getting to the end of someone's bench in a few years.

Kudos to Dwight. He worked his butt off to get this, and did a great job of refining the parts of his game that didn't suit what NBA scouts were looking for. Truly impressive for a kid with so much playground and recklessness during his college career to develop as a post-college player so well. Just goes to show there are different ways to reach your goals.

The Real GM post is based on the reporting by the Thunder beat reporter for The Oklahoman. OKC was taking a long look at Buycks for their deep bench depth and Buycks got a better deal backing up Kyle Lowry.

Also, Buycks and Buzz both tweeted about the deal, so that's pretty official.

Haven't been able to find anything other than that...... I know Julyan Stone failed his physical which is why they had to get DB in the first place.  Let's hope that was the confusion................................

Nothing about that anywhere else.  In fact if you read Buycks own twitter feed it doesn't hint toward anything except this...
