Gordon Gee rips ND, Catholics

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State's president told a university committee in December that Notre Dame wasn't invited to join the Big Ten because they're not good partners, and joked that Catholics can't be trusted.

The recording of Gordon Gee speaking to Ohio State's Athletic Council also captures him saying the Notre Dame priests who run the university are holy on Sunday and "holy hell" the rest of the week.

Gee spoke about conference expansion in the recording obtained by The Associated Press. He says Notre Dame "wanted to have its cake and eat it, too."

Gee, who has a history of verbal gaffes, also questioned the academic integrity of schools in the Southeastern Conference and the University of Louisville. He said Big Ten presidents would never agree to admit Louisville or Kentucky.

Did Gordon Gee forget that tOSU's AD is Gene Smith, An ND Graduate (and played football for the Irish)?  Smith has been the AD since 2005 so you would think Gee is now aware if this factoid.

Or does Gee just have the intelligence of an average tOSU graduate?

Arrogant pinhead. Of course, we all know that every Big 10 "student"-athlete is studying law, medicine, or engineering. ::)

I think he also forgot that his precious university is fresh off probation.

I find this funny, if only because its targeted at Notre Dame.

Isn't that shirt missing a "The" before Ohio?

I love how Brady Hoke intentionally refers to that school in Columbus as "Ohio."

Well, he cast a pretty wide net because he slams Catholics in his comments also.

Good thing he didn't say that about any other religious group because there would be a poopstorm.

Actually, we Anglicans have calmed down since that whole Bloody Mary thing...

Funny Mormon. His second wife smoked weed in the Vandy Presidential Mansion. He must be a Reformed Liberal Mormon.

While Gee is obviously as arrogant as any Buckeye, he does raise a good point. Solely looking at academics, Louisville and Kentucky are mid major material at best. If I was a B1G president, I would never want them in my league.

But hey...at least they aren't Memphis

That's akin to telling the leukemia patient,  "Look at the bright side. You could have AIDs!"

Solely looking at academics as it pertains to big-time athletes, OSU is no better than Louisville or Kentucky.

and what burns my butt, he will get a nice "retirement package" to go away after all these idiotic statements...

I don't disagree with that, but it really is about how you say things.

Niv Berkowitz

I love this story in soooo many ways. First, it's always great to rip ND. Second, it's coming from OSU, a bastion of integrity if there ever was one.

Directions to Columbus (if coming from the North) - south til you smell it, east til you step in it.

OSU won't make him "go away" because of comments like this. Comments like this are what help to bring in big donations from Buckeye boosters who buy in to this way of thinking. Gee basically acts as a blindly loyal cheerleader for the university and alums love him for it.
