The cases...

Vander Blue (14 pts, 2 stl, 2 reb, 2 ast) Blue filled the statsheet and tied for the team lead in scoring. He was especially effective in the first half. Also a perfect 4/4 from the free throw line.

Junior Cadougan (11 pts, 3 reb, 3 ast) Cadougan made some very nice plays and stepped up like a senior, though he did have 4 turnovers.

Steve Taylor (10 pts, 6 reb) Taylor had his best game at Marquette with career highs in points, rebounds, and minutes. Showed great energy, especially in the first half.

Davante Gardner (14 pts, 6 reb) Gardner was quiet for the first 30 minutes before taking over down the stretch, including a one-on-one steal in the post that resulted in a three-point play and more ball-handling than would be expected out of a 6'8", 270-lb player.

My vote goes for Taylor. As good as Vander was, the 3 turnovers offset a bit of his play, and Taylor really provided a ton of energy. He was all over the court and showed a lot of the explosiveness that we've been hoping to see this year.

Taylor - was also 4-4 from the line, had a steal and 4 of his 6 rebounds were offensive.  Real nice Saturday afternoon, Steve!   :)
All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.

PJDunn

His MU tattoo locked up my vote.

Blue and Cadougan had nice games but too many early turnovers. Taylor was solid all game. MU had played poorly in the first half of the buy games this year so far and Taylor helped to change that today by helping MU get out to an 8 pt lead at the half. Gardner's points all pretty much came when the game was decided. I think Taylor should get the SOTG. Also, I thought Lockett looked better today.

Will be interesting if Taylor wins because MU will have 6 different studs for 7 wins. Talk about balance.

bilsu

Cadougan should not even be in this poll. I voted for Taylor, but I could of just as easily voted for Blue or Gardner.

Untucked

Taylor needs to learn to hustle... Never runs back on defense full speed, talented but lazy
Q: What's the difference between Bo Ryan and God?
A: God doesn't think he's Bo Ryan!!

Taylor. Held his own defensively in most cases.

Plus Davante SHOULD win many more (like this one) and Steve may not see as much time to win a SOTG this season.

Bad reasoning, I know, but I also hope I'm wrong.

He's adjusting to the speed of his league. He'll be fine; great hands, great offensive potential and will fill out.

T-Bone

Taylor did have his best defensive game of the year.   Not that it was great but it was markedly improved from the rest of his time on the court.
He brought the energy down low when no one else had it in the first half.
I'm like a turtle, sometimes I get run over by a semi.

Vander  if only because he is the only player to show up for every game

I would have included Lockett and D Wilson in the poll before JC.  JC's turnovers and somewhat sloppy ball handling was a problem.

But the SOTG was Steve.  He made a single 'lack of hustle' mistake in the second half that I'm sure he's caught hell for.  Other than that he did the job I'd hope a solid 4 could provide for a long time.  Coach gave him very extended minutes and he responded in every facet.  Nice job Freshman.

Taylor, just to make rocky struggle with the Steve Taylor picture.

Lockett had one of his best all-around games and looked confident out there for the first time. Really liked Taylor's energy and it's tempting to give him his first (and only?) award.

In the end, though, I thought Vander was the best player on the floor, both offensively and defensively, for almost all the time he was in the game.

Looks like Taylor's gonna win, though, and that's cool.

I don't think Taylor is lazy, Buzz would not be playing him if that was the case. He looked more agressive than Wilson.
Hes gonna be a solid contributor. When was the last time we had a 6'8",235 forward produce as a frosh?

I don't think he is lazy either.  He at times is likely a bit lost.  Lots going on out there and he is just trying not to make mistakes.

He is going to be a solid player this year and outstanding going forward.  Things are starting to slow down and that will allow him to be engaged at all times out there.

jeffreyweee

Vander was our best player the whole game easy. People voting for Steve look at the box score as see he had his career high and are voting for him because it's unlikely he has another shot at SOTG.

BallBoy

1. Taylor
2. Blue
3. Lockett

Gardner isn't even in the conversation as he was benched by the coach most of the game and his points came in garbage time.  How can he be the stud when he was only playing when the game was decided?

Jr. was very sloppy.  You should not have more TO then Assists as a point guard.

I voted Taylor because it might be his only opportunity this year while I think Blue will have more.  He also was tied for the lead for rebs.

Blue might be the SofOOC schedule.  Plays the most minutes, scores, and plays good defense.  Still has some WTF moments.  He is currently our best 3pt shooter.

There was one play in the frontcourt when Derrick Wilson threw a pass toward Taylor that got tipped away, with the ball bouncing toward midcourt. Instead of hustling after the ball, Taylor lollygagged and a Sav State player swept in, grabbed the ball and went the length of the court for a dunk. Not sure if it was laziness or just poor court awareness on Taylor's part. That's the only play I remember that made Taylor look bad.

Nobody had a great line in the boxscore, so Taylor wins with the popular vote.

Having Steve's picture up in the SoG section is nice.  How about adding his name to the SoG season tally?  I mean, what do we pay you guys for?
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.
