The Perfect Storm:

McKay in 2013
Looney in 2014
Stone in 2015

I wonder if the iChew move up to Marquette will impact this situation.

Paul Klee over at IlliniHQ said the following - " Indian Hills CC standout Jameel McKay was scheduled for a campus visit to Illinois on Tuesday or Wednesday. Illinois now is on the outside looking in with McKay's recruitment."

Very interesting situation.

Can someone offer a quick run down on McKay?

What was his deal coming out of high school?  Is he a full qaulifier?  Does he play a wing or a pf?

He was not a full qualifier, he does need the 2 years of JUCO, and with new requirements, will probably have to earn a 2.5 GPA in the process to qualify (compared to 2.25 for incoming freshmen). He's a solid 6'8", some places list him as 6'9", and definitely a power forward. Put up 14.6 and 7.7 en route to a first-team JUCO All-American place as a freshman. He'll need to bulk up some, still listed at 200, but he has a year to hit the weight room, and I'm sure Todd Smith would chisel him up.

As far as options for 2013, I think he's perfect. We have Steve Taylor, but he seems to be as much a wing as a true PF, and in Buzz's system, I'd love to have a guy like McKay around not just for 2013-14 but maybe more importantly for 2014-15 after Otule and Gardner graduate so we have some experienced size to help the seemingly inevitable 2014 big man ease into thing.

I like what I hear.  Bring him home!

Here's an article on McKay's recruitment. We are in his top-6 and have been in on him since HS.

I like this quote.

He explained, "I'm looking for a staff that will help push and be all I can be. I want a coach who has history with JUCO players and wants to push me to get to the NBA. I want to be an NBA draft pick."
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Sounds like he might like buzz

My guess is that if buzz wants him we get him. But we are going to need a post in 2013 in my opinion.

Buzz has JUCO roots, has sent one JUCO player to the NBA, and is about to send two more.

Chew coached at Indian Hills and had a prior recruiting relationship with McKay.

Milwaukee-bred Dwight Buycks starred at Indian Hills, then started 50%+ of his games at MU and averaged 20+ mpg from the outset.

Putting on the MU blue and gold seems like a no-brainer to me.

If we end up adding McKay to the 2013 class with Wilson & Burton, I propose we nickname that class "Milwaukee's Best."

If everything goes perfectly, we could have 4 Milwaukee guys starting for us in a couple years on an elite 8 or better team. Has there been a team with that kind of core of hometown players since the Flintstones?

(Not sure if all the years would match up, just guessing off the top of my head.)

We'd have to come up with just as good nickname too

My vote is for Brewsers. Has that gritty, tough kind of feel that made the Flintstones so appealing.

Really like this quote: "I wasn't always heavily recruited from a young age. I was overlooked, so I feel like I always have something to prove."

Buzz has said millions of times those are the types of guys he likes, the guys with a chip on their shoulder.  I get the feeling he'd fit in really well here.

Milwaukee's Best.  Then when one or two or all three start to take over a game, we can say they're going Beast Mode.  Or when one hits a clutch free throw or jumper we can say he has Beast Ice in his veins.

frozena pizza

Seems like a perfect match for both sides.  I like our chances on this one.

Miller Boys?
I still like Milwaukee's Best?

It would be a nice, um, coincidence, if Jimmy F. Butler, DJO and Jae just happened to be shooting around when Jameel was checking out the Al.
