I was checking out NY2LASPORTS.COM for any info on the tournament this weekend (None), but according to them Burton is ranked #19, and Wilson #20, NATIONALLY.

Could we have 2 Micky D's in 2013?

:o

Les Nessman

Holy crap, can you imagine?

I think it will be a lot more telling to see the Fall rankings after the AAU summer is done. Burton seems to currently be in the 30-50 range and Wilson in the 40-70 range. If they both have big summers, it's possible, but probably best to reserve expectations until a few more services inch them up the boards.

Well, sure, if you want to be all rational about it.   ;D

When's the last time we've had 2 verbal commits in the same class ranked in the top 20 in the COUNTRY(by any recruiting service)?

I just think it's kind of exciting.  In 30 years of following MU hoops I don't think the future has ever looked better...

Burton I think has chance to crack top 25. I do think guys that commit to non blueblood schools early get hurt in the rankings. Love to see him a HS AA but will gladly take him AA or not.

I believe NC State had 3 McDonald AA this year.  I don't really consider them a marquee program.  Those HS kids didn't see their rankings hurt by the early commitment.

They only downgrade Marquette commits, duh.

Actually, there's a belief that storyline was part of the reason they have three. Purvis was a sure-fire McDAA kid, but Perry and Warren weren't as highly regarded. I remember reading some stuff about how they went with three NC State guys even though all weren't necessarily deserving (compared to say, a Mitch McGary) because it increased interest in the game.

I'm not sure there's any truth to that, but it isn't always a case where they take the top 24 prospects, and sometimes there are definitely questions as to why some kids go despite others not going that have much higher recruiting rankings.

I heard this is mainly because the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has strong input on the rankings.

Staying on topic though, I'm very excited for those two to be at Marquette. If we can land Looney and Stone, I'd take that all-Wisconsin plus 1, lineup against anyone.

FYI McGary wasn't eligible for the McDonald's AA game, but I still get what you're trying to say.

if Leslie returns to NC St, some are forecasting them to be the possible pre-season #1

I've heard that and think they are being incredibly overrated. They have a solid incoming class, but it's not like any of these kids are rated like an Anthony Davis or even Austin Rivers for that matter. And while NC State finished strong and got 3 wins in the NCAAs, this wouldn't even be a talking point if they got left out of the tournament, which wasn't that far away.

NC State is improving in a hurry, but they aren't top-10 worthy yet, much less #1. There are quite a few teams I would rank well ahead of them without thinking twice.

3 mcdonalds AA's and a sweet 16 and 3 McD's coming in .... They might be pretty good.

Back to the topic....here's Reggie Rankins recap of Duane Wilson from espn insider:

Marquette commit guard Duane Wilson Jr. (Milwaukee, Wis./Dominican) was impressive with his tight ballhandling, feel for the game, basketball IQ, poise and ability to knock down the open 3 when the defense backed away.

Seemed pretty impressed considering the level of competition over the weekend. I asked him about Deonte Burton but am yet to get a response.
