I'm also curious how Kansas is ranked this week. One thing is for certain, we will be at least one slot ahead of them in the poll. And, I can't imagine them dropping to lower than #6.

#3. UCONN a close 4
2 voters have Connecticut #1 and 1 voter has Arizona #1. How does anyone honestly make a case for any team other than Purdue?

Looks like the voters did well overall.  Can't complain.

You could definitely argue for #2, but #3 is a fair result. Well done by the scrubby AP voters.

Illinois re-entered at #24.

Still incredibly amused by warriorfred thinking we'd be 7th.

Sidenote. I believe their is most an advance analytics have Marquette currently 6th ish.

KenPom 6, Evanmiya 6, Haslametrics 7, Torvik 9. Warren Nolan is at 2 with an ELO based ranking. Shotquality has us 3rd.

Those are all fair.

The broader point, of course, there are a lot more smarter voters than in the past that factor in eye test and analytics.  Anyone not incorporating analytics into their votes are the suspect voters, imo.

This can't be right - I don't see Bucky listed, not even in the others receiving votes section.

So when we slaughter them Saturday, it won't even be considered a good road win.

Pretty much as most of the thinking folks here expected.

Those who thought Kansas would be ranked ahead of us because they're Kansas - ridiculous. Those who had us outside the top-5 - really ridiculous.

#3 seems fair.  Surprised that UCLA didn't get a little more love.  Their two losses were close and against MU & Gonzaga.  I expect to see them ranked soon and that will help our cause.

Jeff Neiburg says he has Kansas ahead of Marquette because they have better metrics.

Looking forward to Jeff telling us the next time metrics win a game.  🙄

Apparently Jeff doesn't have very good reading comprehension.

Toughest Strength of Schedule in order for the AP Top 10 Teams:

1.) Purdue: 1
2.) Marquette: 2
3.) Tennessee: 3
4.) Kansas: 4
5.) Arizona: 6
6.) Duke: 16
7.) Creighton: 36
8.) Houston: 42
9.) Miami: 56
10.) UConn: 59

Obviously Jeff hasn't checked out my metrics. Sorry, I know this is a pg13 rated site. Oopsie.  Fu*k 'Em. Stick your slide rule up your arse.

It's just a misunderstanding of how metrics work. This is one of those problems with people using tools they don't really understand. Kansas is "ahead" of Marquette because they were the better metric team from 2019-2023. That's a pretty weak rationale for putting the 2024 Kansas team ahead of Marquette after seeing Marquette beat their ass.

HowardsWorld

The metrics that I am using via Barttovik are showing that Marquette isn't an underdog until January 30th @ Nova. Metrics also show they are predicted to just lost 3 more regular season games. @Nova, @Uconn and @Creighton all by less than 5 points

Actually, I adjusted it to 6th after Creighton lost.  My rationale was most voters (1) are not "in tune" (diplomatic term) with quality wins and poor losses and have a tendency to focus merely on overall record, (2) there is an inherent bias toward Duke, and (3) yes, my fellow scoopers, Marquette may not get the recognition it deserves.

At least I showed my work and rationale.

warriorfred

Very happy with a 3.  However, very reluctant to give credit to the voters . . .
