I don't think 10 is outrageous, but Kentucky being 8 after losing at home to Wilmington feels pretty rich, given their best win aside from UNC is Miami who have fallen off completely.

AP is flawed in that sense. Movement in the rankings are solely based on how teams performed relative to each other for that week.

Nailed it. Makes me wonder sometimes if the voters put more than 10-15 minutes total into their decisions.

Just realize that the AP poll has no actual science or stats behind it. It's all opinion based. You'll sleep better. It effects nothing but public opinion.

Marquette is a top-10 team despite a few pretty bad outings. That's national respect. Otherwise, not worth worrying about.

For those complaining about UConn, they lost 217 points,  that's a lot.  Their rank didn't change because the two teams right behind them also lost.

Who do you want above UConn? 3 loss Tennessee? 3 loss Marquette? 3 loss UNC? Kentucky who lost at home to UNC (Wilmomgton)? FAU who lost at home to Bryant? Oklahoma who lost to the only tournament lock that they've played?

Our destiny is in our own hands for a #1 or #2 seed.  I would like to drop the hammer on the Jays Saturday and start rolling teams from here on out. Providence sucked but it's time to move on and get our mojo back.  MU's A game is quite formidable and can eliminate any team we face.

Even if teams "aren't respected" in the AP poll, the best answer to that is to keep winning.  Saturday's game against Creighton is the team's opportunity to get ahead again and back on track to a 1 seed in March (or maintaining a 2 seed) and getting better polling numbers.

Given that December has included two pretty bad road losses, as well as a win over St. Thomas that many here consider a loss, us being in the top 10 is showing a lot of national respect to the Marquette program.

There was an article a few years ago (cant find it) that shows if you an average the various rating systems (KenPom, Sagarin, etc) that 20 years ago there was often +/- of 15 places between the voting and those systems. Now it is like +/- of 5 places. Voters paying more attention to the rating versus their biased "eye test".

Point is, harder to not get respect or get too much any more.
