Emmanuel Negedu, the forward from Tennessee who would not be allowed to continue playing at UT due to a heart condition, is transferring so that he can continue to play.   He visited Indiana, but has decided to transfer to New Mexico instead according to Zagsblog.

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Gotta love the first article on that site

Link was worth it just for the Delonte West/LeBron's mom story  :D

When I saw the title, I thought "good, he's going to prioritize his health over basketball". Then I clicked into the thread, and was disappointed to see he's still planning to pursue the game, health risks be damned. I hope for his sake the UT doctors are wrong and he ends up okay, but I hate to see any team put a kid's health at risk for the sake of a game.

When I first saw that story, I stopped and thought for a moment; "Does this mean that LeBron's mom is pregnant, and will Cleveland tell Delonte West that he has to transfer?

I believe that wins the award for most misleading thread title of the week.  Negedu in no way shape or form passed on Indiana.  The IU administration didn't want to take the risk of him dying as a member of their team and forced Crean to stop recruiting him, despite the fact that their medical staff had given the okay, so Indiana pulled out of the sweepstakes.

You're right, my thread title indicated that Negedu made the decision.  The article that I saw implied that was how it was.  Another example on the benefits of having the access to the premium sites that you do.  Thanks for setting the matter straight.

Funny, but that wasn't premium info from any site, I'm not one of the people that posts premium info from the other board on this one.  It was public knowledge, and a topic of discussion on both the Tennesee and Indiana message boards after being written about in one of the Knoxville newspapers.

Public knowledge for you maybe... Sometimes I wonder if you work for the college basketball CIA

Yup, Zag's blog is not a premium site.

I wouldn't want anything to do with Negedu. Maybe he's perfectly healthy. But after 2 schools said no, after he had a heart attack that would have killed him if not for quick reactions from others, I just don't see it being worth the risk. If he has another incident it will be a PR nightmare, and quite a few jobs will be lost. Doesn't seem worth the risk when Pearl was willing to give him a full ride as a coaching assistant anyway.

Best of luck to him, I hope for his sake it doesn't turn into an "I told you so" moment.

It's Negedu's life, and if he'd rather play Division I college basketball and risk it (however much he is), I'd like to think that he should have that option.  Not too many of us ever get the chance to play anywhere near that level, and I wonder what I'd risk to be able to play there.  What kind of risks do people take when they take on Mt. Everest?  Majerus would have gladly run up and down the floor with half an arm ripped off.

Now on the other hand, if I'm a college administrator, I say no way.  The way Northwestern got raked over the coals when a football player of theirs, Rashidi Wheeler, died was incredibly unfair in my opinion.
