Saturday...Night Game..Big East basketball...BIG postseason implications.  Honestly, it doesn't get much better (maybe if we were playing a natural rival).  I know Dominque said ND was a tough place to play last week, but he better not underestimate what the atmosphere will be like tomorrow night @ the BC.  My guess is that USF has not played in too many meaningful games on the road where the home team's fans have been out in full force (both physically and mentally from start to finish).  Should be fun.

I hope you are right. I'm down here in North Carolina so the only thing I have to go by are the televised games. Maybe it's how ESPN has the mics mixed on the broadcasts, but game in and game out, Marquette's crowds are the quietest I've heard for any college games all season. It's more like a NBA mid-season game noise level.

LON

Squad 6 has been louder than the MU student section this year.

EDIT:  I have no idea how loud Squad 6 has been.

i think tomorrow night will be pretty big. We haven't really had a big game with the whole student body here. the big games that were televised on espn were ones where a lot of students were on xmas break (nova & gtown).

edit: actually i don't think the gtown game was on espn.

Worst student section I've seen in years.

The problem with that thinking is you need the casual fan who bought Fanatics tickets "just because" to think that this game is a big game.  I don't know if casual fans are going to think South Florida is a big deal.

Buzz sent an email to all fanatic ticket holders yesterday saying how important this game was.

I for one think its going to be packed and rowdy. Yes, the students have been lackadaisical attending the games this year but I think they will really show up for this one. Its a Saturday night game, giving everyone ample time to day drink and get prepared. Everyone I have talked to yesterday were saving themselves for today. Hell, I should not be awake right now, but I came home early just so I can get ready for a days worth of drinking.

As for me and my "crew", we organized a mini-parents weekend, with about 13 of my good friends parents coming into town. Add in a keg of Schlitz, a couple bottles, and father v. son flip cup; I think its safe to say we will be prepared.

Lets get it MU!

I'm sure it will be a really big crowd but it's hard for casual fans to get "jacked up" for South Florida.  They're a mediocre team (not bad but not that good, either).  And it's just been such a strange season for MU with so many close losses/chokes that demoralized the fan base and yet they've now won a few in a row and now can be in contention to still make the tourney.  I think the fans will be much more energized for Louisville and ND, if they are meaningful games.

Anyone who says you can't get jacked for this game is crazy.  No, South Florida isn't a household name, but these are two teams squarely on the bubble.  Win this game and MU is looking good for the tourney, something I never would have guessed (or I wouldn't have bought tickets to the NCAA tourney at the Bradley Center).  Lose this game and South Florida passes MU on the bubble watch.  Besides it's Saturday night.  Also, while I agree that the student section has been mediocre, the students aren't the only acting like they're in the library at games this year.  The lower bowl has looked like an NBA crowd all season long, with the biggest cheers coming for the kiss cam.  It's time for the whole crowd to have a few frosty beverages and get loud.

Rocco

I have had season tickets for about 20 years now.  The lower bowl, aside from the student section, has been lame and lethargic for years.  The students need to set the tone, and they rarely do.  Oh and BTW, if it takes alcohol to get "jacked up", you probably shouldn't be at the game in the first place.  Wisconsinites have a strange obsession with, "it's not fun unless you drink."  Is there anything people care about without booze?

Rocco, I don't care what it takes to get "jacked up."  Maybe you should do less judging and more cheering in the lower bowl and set the tone yourself.

Thanks for the lecture Mom...I've been in the lower bowl for 5 years now and I don't need the students to get me jacked up.  Saying the students need to set the tone is the weakest excuse I have ever heard.

I think tonights' crowd will be good.  It should be a fast paced, entertaining game, which will contribute to the noise level.  Really looking forward to it - RING OUT AHOYA!!

Wow. Suprised by your comments. If they are "mediocre" what does that make us? Funny,  both teams are 15-8. We lose and both teams are 6-6 in the BE. Sems like an awfully important game to me. Perhaps you should think before you write.

I'm not saying "can't," I'm saying that if you're not paying attention to bracket predictions or standings, it might be hard to realize why the game's important.

I moved upstairs, by the student section, so I don't get yelled at for standing and cheering anymore.  Get a clue.  I wasn't lecturing anyone, Im stating a fact.  I sat in the lower bowl, section 203, for years.  I would get told to sit down, every game.  Eventually I got sick of it so I now sit in the first couple of rows, of the upper level, by the student section.  It is great.  The sweater vests are lame and ruin the atmosphere.  It is up to the students to set the tone.

damuts222

Im jacked up to go to tonights game, and drinking beforehand will get me even more jacked up. In other words I cheer w/o
limitation after a lil pregaming.

This is why I sit in the last row of the lower bowl.  :D

There have been complaints about the enthusiasm in the lower bowl for years and years.  But whenever there's been a big game involving a highly ranked team or a rivalry game like UW or ND, the fans have been appropriately fired up and ready to go, imo.  But tonight is USF, a team that is below .500 in the conference and MU is a 9 pt favorite.  It's a big game, but it's a game that MU should win and win by a decent margin if they play well.

MrRivals150

I just talked to Wes Matthews last night at the Madison Memorial game and said "Good job on getting Vander to MU and now you got to work on getting Junior Lomomba to continue that pipeline"---he loved my MU gear on and said he honestly wasn't sure yet on Junior.

A few days ago, Gottleib referred to MU as "average" and that seems about right to me.  They have two bad losses with NC State and De Paul and one good win vs Georgetown.

And it's certainly an important game, but that alone won't get the fans as fired up as they would be playing a bigger name.   Fans will be much more pumped up for Pitt, Louisville and ND (if MU keeps winning).

i hope to be chanting "guraaaanntteeeeeeeeed" (to the same tune as ooooverrated) as the final seconds tick off.
