Quote from: Uncle Rico on December 18, 2024, 11:44:55 AMI wonder what lesson they'll learn from this event?  Men's golf is probably the least relevant it's been in decades.

LIV is a bust.  The Tour is losing sponsors and viewers.  Players on both tours have no idea the product sucks and don't care.  The players that do care on the PGA side are dismissed unless they care solely about money.

Without the majors, the sport would be on the level of bowling

If past history is any indication they won't learn any lesson.

I kind of got involved in the sport later in life so my experience starts just prior to the dawn of the Tiger era. My understanding is that people weren't exactly lining up to watch Hal Sutton and Corey Pavin duke it out before Eldrick came on the scene.

Most likely will be cyclical. Somebody will come along and reignite interest in the sport. For the time being I'm not certain crowds will show up to watch Justin Thomas or Jordan Spieth.

Ancillary benefit is, at least where I live, tee times are much more available than they were just a few years ago.

Seriously jealous.  COVID drove non-golfers to the course to drink, and around here, they have not left.  Having 12 golf courses in a 30 mile radius close in the last 15 years kind of sucks, too.

We need to shrink the game.

What's amazing is, the majors feel obligated to increase purses.  The money athletes make now has become to numb to sports fans.  There was a time when you could brag about prize money for your event.  Now?  Nobody cares.  Golf keeps thinking more money makes the product better when the average fan doesn't care about it.
Kam and the Warriors blowing it just like at Dayton. Bet your heads out of your asses.

All the Country Clubs in our area have long wait lists and they are upping initiation fees and dues. Only way to get into some is buy a home in Country Club community.
