Memphis gets in at 100....I thought their academics had a bad reputation? I thought they were a tier 4 school until I saw US News' ranking them in tier 2.


I have a hard time believing that 6 of the best 11 schools in the US are in California -  and none of them are even Cal Tech. But besides the actual # ranking of the schools, no University really seems out of place in the top 100 - except for maybe Memphis.

Washington monthly rankings are really based solely on social issues, social justice, community service, etc.  Its good to be ranked high, but this rating has no real correlation to academics.

I am extremely proud of that ranking (shout out to radome!)  , but it still doesn't beat the satisfaction I get taking care of our service-members, especially the Wounded Warriors at The President's Hospital at Bethesda.  Marquette's Navy ROTC and College of Nursing most definitely prepared me for my job.

When I was...I think a freshman, we had a retired USMC Brigadier General speak at our Navy Birthday Ball, and he spoke a little about changing the school's mascot back to Warrior.  It didn't have to be an American Indian, but instead, a United States Marine.  With all the love and due respect for all the other Armed Services...there is no greater Warrior than the United States Marine.

What, like they don't get any recognition? Come on, California schools get plenty of good pub and recognition....but I don't buy that they dominate out secondary education system the way some rankings claim.

The UC system is the top public university system in the country.  The Cal State system, however, is run of the mill with some decent schools, awful schools and some in between.

I always forget some states have two different systems....and by "dominate" I meant that UC schools don't make up 6 of the top 11 schools like they do in that ranking - not disputing that California has the best secondary education system in the country.

Absolutely....which MU does not fit as a description...as stated the other day, MU would crush 19 of the 20 "run of the mill" Cal State schools and would squeak by the 20th.

They do.

They're large research universities that continue to draw large amounts of talented students who find the affordable UC system comparable to private universities...and much cheaper.

That may change as they're experiencing double digit increases in tuition.
