MU a 3 seed in latest ESPN bracketology
« on: January 24, 2007, 12:35:58 PM »
I think this may be a little high right now but I could definitely see us being a 3 seed, possibly even a 2 at the end of the year if we take care of the teams we are supposed to on the road and hold serve at home.

has us as a 3, too, but they've got us in the Midwest regional, so we'd play the first two rounds in Chi-town.

...from the same people who had us outside looking in just a few weeks ago.   Fun speculation, but it is nothing but lottery numbers right now.  If we keep playing as we have the last 4 games, it will all take care of itself.  We won't be able to play the "no respect" card or anything if we finish 1 or 2 in the BE.

I don't see how that is in anyway high for a team that at the moment is the best team in the Big East.

I agree that, at the moment we are the hottest team in the Big East.  But, with an RPI of 26, a loss to a sub 100 opponent, 4 losses overall, and rankings of 15 and 20 in the polls (I know they are meaningless when it comes to seeding); I'm not sure we have earned a 3 seed yet.

We are the highest ranked 4 loss team.  That seed is by virtue of being smoking hot for the last two weeks.   All it will take for that seed to drop to a 7 is a loss to SH or to USF.   Take care of business the rest of the way and the seed that actually matters will come.

This is per Seth Davis from the Yahoo article:
• Please, please, please do not listen to commentators who rip the RPI by looking at teams' individual rankings. (Florida is currently ranked 29th. 'Nuff said.) I suppose I'll get into this in more detail as the tournament approaches, but a team's RPI ranking is absolutely meaningless in determining its NCAA tournament standing. It amazes me something talked about so much is so often misunderstood.

Florida is 29 in the RPI?

Keep in mind that two of our losses occurred when one of our two best players was injured--missed one game completely, and hadn't practiced for a week before the other.

I know people tend to dismiss injuries in these message boards, but the committee does take injuries into account.

You are absolutely correct.  Which is why this theoretical bracket mean nada thing.  (yes, I know it is bad grammar).   The only seed that matters will be take care of itself if MU takes care of business.  The tournament committee also looks at record for the last 10 games of the season, so finish 7-3, or 8-2,  win a game or two in the BE tourney, and a 3 seed that actually matters could happen.
