People who are so easily offended probably do not watch the NBA.  I mean, those tattoos alone would scare them off.

Wade has to learn that he is not a bad guy.  This type of thread does not happen 6 months ago.  No one is going to give Wade the benefit on anything anymore.  The press kept his divorce pretty private.  Now that he has formed the big 3, the press would not have ignored that.

It doesn't matter whether or not something like WTC personally offends you.  It might offend some people, and whether Wade likes it or not, people don't like this Heat team.  People will jump on this and anything that could be perceived as negative about these guys. 

It is not really fair because the WTC comment is not bad necessarily and these guys had every right to sign with the Heat, its just the reality of the way people feel about the Heat.  It's part of the Bulls-eye and the exact overhyping that he was specifically talking about in the quote.

Apparently, some idiot reporter miss quoted Wade on this in the original story, causing even more controversy. At the Sporting Blog, Wade's comments were initially published differently as "If we lose a couple in a row this season, it will be like the World Trade (Center) is coming down again."

HuffPost's headline is "Dwyane Wade Unfairly Blamed For Controversial 9/11 Comments." Also nice to see that most of the commentators have good enough reading comprehension to understand what he meant.

With the probally hundreds of interviews these guys give a week, mistakes like this are almost inevitable.  If this is the worst thing he says during his career, its a big nothing.

I don't think his actual comment was offensive in the least, but mentioning the World Trade Center when discussing basketball is never a good idea. We live in a PC country with a lot of "unregulated publications" out there. Whether you find the comment offensive or not, it's best for people in the public eye to avoid making references to specific touchy subjects (9/11, Hitler, slavery, etc) in any form because someone will almost always find a way to take it out of context.

This is probably a good lesson for Wade.  Not a bad comment, taken out of context, no real harm.  He has turned from a fan favorite to the leader of the team people want to lose.  He cannot say anything borderline like this anymore.

Well put. D-Wade could become the Derek Jeter of the NBA. There will be a lot of fans who like and respect him as a player even if they cheer against his team.

That's the quote that I saw attributed originally.  I still think it was a bad metaphor, but at least he was making a poor attempt at media criticism instead of just poor metaphors.
