The kid had game.  But perhaps I'm sharing a hot take.

How so? The guy didn't play defense, and his off-ball offense was limited to waving at whoever had the ball.
Have some patience, FFS.

Fair point.  I'm just thinking out loud and was only focusing on elevation and athleticism.

He transferred because his mother died and he needed to get away from Milwaukee.......he said so at the time.

Not everything that happens is because somebody " messed up"

Fair enough.  My apologies.

I LOL'd at that characterization.  Well done.

I honestly don't remember, Muggs, but I'm pretty sure not.

Artie was a Rucker Park legend, and I think the story goes that Al promised him a scholarship sight unseen on Butch Lee's recommendation.

He never lived up to his reputation at MU, as he was stuck behind another Rucker standout, the great Sam Worthen, as well as Michael Wilson and later Glenn Rivers.

But he could sky. (As could Rivers.)

So what are we talking about here?  6'1 with a higher vert than Dominic?  44 inch range?

Maybe it's researchable, but I believe the highest NBA combine ups belonged to D.Thompson.  Spud for sure had a 46 and Muggs has a 44.  There was that guy from Memphis that had like mini trampolines in his soles.  I think he wound up playing for the Globetrotters.  He may have had a 50 piece.

Not at the level we're discussing.  My first MU hoops memory was watching that guy torch dudes.  Loved him.  But he played on a brutal team.

Apparently in 2021 Keon Johnson had a 48?  I'd like to see the video.

The clip I just looked at is inconclusive.   But he certainly can elevate.

David Thompson could sky, but I'm pretty sure there wasn't a "combine" when he was coming out of college to play in the ABA.

The young Julius Erving had ridiculous hops.

As for Artie Green, I have no idea what his vertical leap was.

I guess you're right about the combime.  Thompson had ridiculous college stats.  There were some fun players back in the day.

We beat ND in 1990, I believe, Tony had a break away. Did a 2 handed reverse slam, was impressive. Versus some of the other names being discussed, Tony was really strong, not skinny. Played at about 210 to 215 lbs. Would agree his vert not world class. Tore up some really good players his last year.

Yeah, he was certainly athletic, but not a super-athlete. (Enough of one to have a decade long NBA career.) Did his business getting to the rim because of his size, but not a great shooter.

Back in the day, trainer Bob Weingart took Artie to a study that was being done on "G's" generated.
The person conducting the study asked Artie to step onto a measuring platform and jump as high as he could.
Buff asked how high the ceiling was.  He was told 10 feet.  Buff said "It won't hold him"
He was assured that dozens of people, many taller than Artie, had jumped with no issues.

Artie jumped, and not surprising, hit his head on the ceiling.

If Artie was 6'1".  The platform about 6".  Which would have put the ceiling roughly 41" above Artie's head.

Omax had 40.5 inches, which was 3rd best at his combine day.

Pretty much the same thing right? He wanted to stay in Milwaukee when she was sick, and when she died, he felt he could go elsewhere.  In either case, it wasn't because Wojo didn't start him.

I think the cause and effect changes. He left because his mother died and wanted to get away vs he stayed because he wanted to be around his mom while she was sick.

Same outcome different motive. The former someone (I believe Ners) still pouts that we lost him, the latter shows he wasn't really ours to lose in the first place and we were lucky to get him at all.
