The con: You limit your recruiting pool, thus eliminating some really good players.

Definitely feels like these agents are taking huge advantage of these kids. Especially those below the NBA prospect tier. They're asking for higher percentage takes because "the dollars are smaller" and then the kid takes home what, $100k on like a $250k deal? And end up in a place worse than if they stayed where they were and then maybe a decent degree and nothing to show. The long term doesn't look great for the transferring portal agent route IMO. Don't need an agent unless maybe your a try NBA prospect.

So you're saying that NIL collectives or supporters of a college athletics program pay agents, who then pay players?  I call BS on your agents' story.

Also, that agent must not have been a very good agent if he was representing professional athletes in any of the NBA, MLB, NFL, or NHL and only taking home $2MM.

How do you think international kids are getting paid for not doing any work (like Gold did in the Bahamas) and not violating their visas? The money goes through the agent or another third party.

Many of these NIL agents were small time pro agents who could only get lower level pro guys. Do you really think Scott Boras, Jeff Schwartz, Rich Paul, or Bill Duffy are doing NIL or that every agent registered with the NLFPA has a bunch of guys all getting max deals and is clearing $ millions per year? In the pros commissions are limited to 3 to 5% depending on the league's CBA, so if you are representing a couple of MLB guys making the league minimum doing NIL is going to be much more lucrative. And, many up-and-coming agents use NIL as a way to lock in a guy when should they go pro.

If you are a young agent and have seven clients getting an average of $1 million in salary that's $280,000 in commissions. If you're with a firm you're giving a nice chunk to your firm. Now, get just three guys on NIL making an average of $500,000 that's $300k in commission at 20% (more if you're not playing it straight).

Shaka is smart in protecting his players from these predatory agents trying to take advantage of kids and families, especially when guys are being paid through the collective or can go out and get their own deals in the area (like Kam and that soda company).

So what you're saying is that they weren't very good agents.

Gold was able to legally get the money, because it was overseas.  I'm going to again call BS that that money first went through an agent, who then paid Ben Gold out of his pocket.  And sticking to my stance that there are agents that have kids telling them they want $250K in NIL money, they tell the school the kid wants $300K in NIL money, and the agent pockets $50K for himself and neither the school nor the player think to verify anything for themselves, nothing is signed showing an amount, etc. is a BS story.  Maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't see it.  Also have my doubts these agents are going around telling people they're committing fraud.

And I personally know ex MLB players and it was 10% not 5
