1. Shaka...I need the bench to get better to raise our March ceiling...per Fanta
2.  MU's defense was superb.  So many steals.  So many forced turnovers.
3. Imagine the score if MU made their layups and dunks.  Might have won by 40.
4.  MU got sloppy with a lead.  See 1. Got to get the bench as much experience as possible.
5.  Young guys.  Some good some bad. Patiently respect the process.
6.  Say it with me as you breathe deeply... an open 3 is always a good shot.  Let it fill your consciousness.
7.  Admit it, deep down, in places you don't want to acknowledge, you want Ben shooting the corner 3.
8.  So, blowout conference road win.  Bench got extended run. Nobody hurt. All MU can ask for.

Good to have a get right game. Kam making threes opens up the offense. Now hopefully it continues, and then Jop gets hot from 3.

Maybe. But will Creighton and St. John's?
They look like the class of league right now. Have not seen Johnnies play, but Creighton looks awesome.

PGsHeroes32

Kam getting himself righted a bit from deep was nice. Ben still shooting great is nice. D with all the horses play excellent even with the bad opponent.

The bad? Next years roster was worse than SHU on the floor. 3/5 starters has zero efficiency again.

Long way to go still. Right now its still team defense and pray for Good Kam.
Lazar picking up where the BIG 3 left off....

IrwinFletcher

Great to see Kam get right again.  Will be huge moving forward.
Jop did not have a good game.
Ben dunks are fun.
Young guys have a looooong way to go to be formidable on the court.

Is it enough to remove the sour taste of Xavier at home? Not yet.
Glad we did what we expect to do...play well.

MU covered on the road force feeding  minutes to the bench.  The only way they will get better is by playing.

72 minutes for the bench tonight.  To me, most important stat other than the W.

Decent response to the Xavier loss. Starters especially had some nice stretches,

Kam hopefully has something to build on with his shot coming back. That one lucky-bounce 3 got him going. Movin' on up the scoring chart for Marquette.

Off the bench, Owens played pretty well offensively. Nice dish from Norman to Zaide in the first half.

Loved the D most of the game. Our starting backcourt combined for a dozen steals.

Seton Hall bloweth, but we still beat the spread on the road, and were never threatened once we went up 10.

I'll take it!

Glad Lowery,Owens and Parnham saw a few go through the hoop.  Hopefully it gives them confidence and a second wind to finish off the season strong.

Quote from: MU82 on January 21, 2025, 09:21:26 PMSeton Hall bloweth

Realistically we'll only play a team that bloweth this badly once more. Hall at home.

Seton Hall has played 19 games.  They have managed to score:

80s - 2 games (1 of which was a loss)
70s - 3 games
60s - 7 games
50s - 6 games
40s - 1 game

I can't fathom scoop if MU had an offense this putrid.  Kenpom ORtg #231.  Lowest among major conference teams. Closest BE team is Georgetown at 163 and then DePaul at 97.

Unrelated: gave up a career high 27 to Isaiah Coleman.

As for the young guys, I thought Lowery was solid on both ends. He got fouled on the break where he missed the dunk.

Refreshing to see MU again play like MU.

I really like Zaide Lowery.

Plays solid D, stays within himself, solid in his outside shot when he lets it go with confidence.

Athletic and active, very aware.

Needs to take the next step and get confident on the drive, much like Chase last year.

When he's out his absence is REALLY felt, it's happened twice this year. That's a sign of a really important player.
He will take a huge leap next season, but hopefully it comes sooner in this season.
Want to see Shaka make him first off the bench again when his health allows it, because his defense is contagious

The Thing

The defense at the end with the young guys was really bad. It seemed like it was one layup after another. They have some growing up to do. Overall, nice win though.

Zog from Margo

Not all of the young guys are poor defenders. Lowery and Norman are pretty solid. Parham has good instincts but can get pushed around. Owens and Hamilton struggle, but not unusually so for freshmen. When all five play together, it's not a good group defensively. Norman and Lowery are fine when playing with the starters, IMO. When you see how far Kam and Joplin have come on D, I don't see any reason to worry about any of the young guys.

#6 question:

If you have a 3 on 1 fastbreak and have an "open 3" is that a good shot?  An open three is a very nuanced and debatable topic.  If you're simply saying that if you can get a 3 pt shot off, without much of a hand in your face, it's always a good fga, then I just disagree with you.  There are good open threes in rhythm and bad open threes early in the shot clock off of a few dribbles as one example.  Launching indiscriminately because you are square to the basket and can get it off doesn't make it a quality shot.  There are a number of additional examples where an open three is a bad shot if you have a chippie from a pass or two.   Based on this logic Steph Curry should take a three every possession he's in the game if he can unload.

It's more than just Kam imo.  We need Stevie, Chase, and Jop to be more efficient and consistent offensively.

Yeah, I think he is our best option off the bench - I think we really missed him w X (was he sick? I never saw). Tre is playing because there is no Sean and he is what he is. Every now and then there is a flash - our ceiling rises considerably if he can put it together. The Freshman - if we can get to a situation where 1 of the 3 of them can be a positive on any given night I'd take it.

One game against SH does not definitively spell the end of the Kam funk - but we need him out of that and all of the bench progression above to make the FF

Solid W.
Everyone on the bench played 10+ min and we still covered.
Ben gold is so much better than we give him credit for.
