The NET really really hates MU

Marquette is #12 in the NET. Marquette has won tough games and leads the country with 6 combined Quad 1 and Quad 2 Wins along with Oregon and Auburn.

Arizona is #26 in the NET and has obliterated cupcakes but has 0 Zero combined Quad 1 and Quad 2 Wins.

Showing my ignorance....does the movement from NET 12 Tto 8 (after a blowout win) mean that it takes margin of victory into account or is there some other math that did that?

Yes, margin of victory (capped at 20 i believe) combined with the increases in our offensive and defensive efficiency metrics as a result of the blowout.

Youngs information is outdated. Margin of victory was a factor and used to be capped at 10. In 2020 they changed the formula and dropped margin of victory. That being said margin of victory is a good barometer for how much a specific game will impact the NET. Reason being is that offensive/defensive efficiency are still considered in the NET. Generally the larger the margin of victory, the higher efficiency score.

The reason last nights game was so good for our NET (in addition to the 28 point margin of victory and it being on the road) was because it was a relatively low possession game. There were only 62 possessions last night (we average around 69 a game). Essentially we increased our lead over PC by .45 points every posession. If we played our normal pace of 69 possessions, we would have had to beat them by 32 in order to match our efficiency from last night.

TLDR: Margin of victory is technically not a factor but in general the bigger the margin of victory the better it is for your NET.
