Seemed like a decent guy despite his rough presidency.

A very good man.  Perhaps the greatest ex-president.  Not a great president.  RIP.

Vaccines come for us all in the end. 90 years later and the diphtheria jab finally got him.

greatest post presidency and it's probably not super close. Helped countless people in need through global health and immunization initiatives, habitat for humanity, and fighting for human rights.

Even if things backfire on you, you can still do ample amounts of good and have compassion in retirement.

A well earned RIP

Life well-lived.  Amazing person.

2 years in hospice care seems highly unusual.

Dave was a realistic film but finding a double Jimmy's age would be challenging.  :)

Seems to me that Jimmy Carter was a good human being. I think he made a few mistakes, but then again we are all human.
Maybe we(I)expect too much of public figures? I didn't like his handling of the Hostage crisis nor did I like him signing off on the Chavez election in Venezuela. End of the day I trust that he did what he thought was right with the info he had. Via con dios Mr. President.

A great man and unfortunately not a great president.  What he did for the remainder of his life, however, outshines almost every legacy of every millionaire, billionaire, and office holder.  Well done Jimmy.  RIP.

pre and post public service, his work was exemplary.  he was a good man

yes-RIP

hospice care is not necessarily all end of life even though chances of recovery to a semblance of previous health are slim to none.  it's focus is on patient comfort and quality of remaining life despite medicare for example needing a doctor's diagnosis certifying the patient as terminally ill.  what is terminally ill?  in president jimmy's situation, he proved to be one tough dude.  but as an example, my dad has been in a nursing home for the past 6 years post stroke as they had been able to provide adequate care for him up until about last june or so.  as his condition, mainly mobility has predictably worsened, the nursing home told us we would either have to move him or bring in hospice care in order for him to stay as they did not have the resources to provide for him while still being able to adequately care for the other residents. hospice care became adjunctive to the nursing home care

my dad had to consent and as hard as that is for anyone,  we had to impress upon him the reasons as stated above.  moving him would have been devastating and equivalent to, well, let's just say we made the easy decision for us as a family.  how long my father has to live is not up to a doctor nor the definition of hospice

All I ever heard from my parents was "He should have sent one more helicopter....."

I had done Habitat for Humanity for Marquette Service Day for several years and appreciated Jimmy Carter's work knowing it was not easy but also felt rewarding.

Whatever (D) elected in '76 was going to be transitory.  He inherited a mess not from Ford, but from Nixon's administration.  There was no magical potion any president could use to fix that mess.  Carter just happened to be the sacrificial lamb the (D)'s chose.

Ford and Carter became very good friends after 1980 despite a very contentious election in '76.  Their friendship and contributions to humanity post-presidency show what people are capable of without having tags attached to them by party.

Both were fundamentally good people.  The Ford Museum will be doing a display highlighting their friendship and bond.

Visited the Carter Library and Museum  several years ago while in Atlanta, well worth a stop.
He and Ford were able to become friends, as did George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton.

I'm going to be a contrarian. I actually think Jimmy Carter was a pretty good President.

America in 1976 wasn't quite ready for a "funny talking" southerner with a strong, fundamentalist faith who wasn't afraid to speak about who he was or what he believed in. That was strike one against him.

Strike Two was Iran and the economy. I'm sure President Carter would have loved to get a do-over on letting the Shah into the country or appointing Paul Voelker Chairman of the Fed. On Iran, negotiating in public and having the event on the nightly news every single night is never conducive to resolving an issue. Best he should of done, but could not do was turn the satellite to Iran off for the duration.

For all of us who travel, it was President Carter who signed legislation deregulating the airlines, as well as railroads and trucking. He was an environmental President who warned of many of the issues we debate today. And, he was something we don't see often in Washington anymore, a true fiscal conservative who stood up to Congressional pork, which permanently tainted his relationship with Speaker Tip O'Neill.

President Carter hacked off lots of people when he said we weren't going to the Soviet Union's coming out party -- the 1980 Olympic Games. It may seem trite today but those games were a huge deal to the Soviets, who had finally rebuilt their country. Oh, and he was the first to put human rights at the core of U.S. foreign policy.

Carter's fiscal policy and attitude toward human rights made President Reagan's efforts possible. Internationally, President Carter's human rights efforts were the first cracks in the iron curtain.

Rest in peace, Mr. President. Your work here is done!

This is an excellent summation of President Carter:

Was overall a very lousy President ,with a couple of solid achievements, most notably deregulation of airlines , railroads etc

Post Presidency was a mixed bag of Charity, Anti Semitic and Anti American activities . He aggressively interfered with the activities of sitting Presidents .

Count me not in the revisionist history camp.

Robbing our athletes the chance to compete was a major blunder not an accomplishment. "Taking our ball and going home" made him and the USA look small and petty.

Carter rescued the brewing industry in the US by finally making homebrewing legal. Craft beer is almost 30% of sales.
