Big win hope fo-Tee gets better.

Also how did the announcers decide on that pronunciation?

Maybe they thought she was Samoan?  :D  :D

It's going to be a David v. Goliath matchup at Penn State for our ladies. PSU is 31-2 on the season, 19-0 at home in Rec Hall (which will be a very hostile atmosphere, unlike the cavernous Huntsmann Center in Utah) and ranked #2 overall. PSU's only conference loss was at Bucky, they beat Nebraska in State College and they also lost to #1 Pitt. Hoping Foti is healthy so we can be at full strength.

Gameday! Hope the ladies can rise to the occasion, doubt it given they haven't beaten a top team all year but only has to happen once! ...Well three times technically...

#4 seed Oregon gave overall #1 Pitt all they could handle yesterday, taking them to five sets. That gave me some optimism that MU could do the same (I'll just ignore what Louisville did to Purdue).

Creighton knocks off 2 time defending national champs Texas 3-1. Let's keep the Big East momentum going in match #2!

Oregon is also much better than Marquette.

Unfortunately I think the Sweet 16 is about the ceiling at Marquette.  I see this being a pretty quick match.

agreed. The size and power of players from PSU will be too much. Taking one set and being more competitive than Purdue was against Louisville last night is my hope for today.

I don't follow VB, so is the drop off from 4 to 5 seeds that significant? I know that happens in WBB, so is it the same mass concentration of talent at the top?

#UnleashSean

off on a friday. LETS GO MU VOLLEYBALL! My first time watching ever.

#UnleashSean

Oh crap, is this the sweet 16?

Looks like when my friendgroup plays the sandbaggers in the rec league.

Yeah there are tiers that vary in size year to year, but there's a huge drop off in each tier. Women's basketball is probably a good comparison for it, although I don't follow that enough.

Usually there's a tier of about 4-5 teams that could win the national title. Then below that there's the rest of the top 10 that are legit top 10, but have almost zero chance to even compete with the top 3-5 teams. Below that is a group of another maybe 5 that can compete with 5-10 but isn't a Final Four threat by any means. Then you have teams like Marquette who can sneak into a second weekend but will get steamrolled by basically anyone left in the field.

This year I'd be shocked if anyone but Nebraska, Pitt, or Penn State won it all. Stanford, Louisville, and Creighton are all good enough to beat one of those teams on a random off night, but I don't see them beating 2 or 3 needed to win it all. And MU has no hope to beat any of those 6.

Hey now, were tied in the 2nd set!

With my extensive knowledge of Volleyball to guide me here, that was a tough point to lose eh?

Yeah that was a wild rally that we seemingly were in control of and ended up losing.

That's the biggest difference in MU's level and the high, high major level. Big athletic pins with big arms who can flip a rally by just airing out a high set to them.
