Don't think they'll penalize Gonzaga as much as you think they will

Well...we're going to be 6th or 7th.

Perhaps I wrote too soon with the Oregon meltdown.

My guess is:

Kansas
Auburn
Tenn
Iowa St.
Kentucky
MU
Gonzaga

If the Zags are 6th ahead of us?  I disagree but it isn't egregious.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

My guess for the top 15:

1. Auburn
2. Kansas
3. Tennessee
4. Iowa State
5. Kentucky
6. Marquette
7. Gonzaga
8. Purdue
9. Alabama
10. Duke
11. Wisconsin
12. Cincinnati
13. Florida
14. Oregon
15. Baylor

I don't see anyone catching us from behind. Purdue is the only one with an argument and I think the head to head matchup will keep us in front. I think we are lock to move ahead of UConn, Houston, and Alabama. Gonzaga I could see right ahead or right behind us. I don't think Iowa State gets punished for losing a gem of game to Auburn.

What exactly has Duke done to get a top 10 ranking. 2 losses best with against Zona who has 4 losses?

Looks like WARM weather in Ames Weds - high in the mid-40s. Should be a pleasant drive.
REJOICE! Eric Dixon has been suspended!!

Juan Anderson's Mixtape

I think TAMU is right. I will also say 6.

As for Duke, they are largely ranked off reputation at this point.  Their losses to Kentucky and Kansas don't hurt. Their win against Arizona is aging poorly. We'll see how Duke fairs against Auburn.

They're ranked 4th in KenPom and have only lost to two top 5 teams by a combined 8 points.

Who are you putting there instead? Wisconsin? What have they done to deserve a top 10 ranking? One nice win against Pitt and nearly losing to the Vaqueros?

How good is Cincy?  I don't see any issue with your top 15.

Muggs,

Genuine question

In your personal life  do you ask as many questions on base line stuff as you do here?

Completely off topic, but is it wild to think that Kon is actually getting more run at Duke this season than he would be getting at Marquette?

That says so much about the program Shaka is running.

I also don't think it's helpful that Kon is getting this much run, or this much of the offensive pie.
I know all frosh want just that, and Duke is Duke, but kid is an elite shooter and he's been almost 'forced' to try to do too much too soon imo, and it's exposed weaknesses.

He's shooting 36% from 3 and that'll likely improve, and he should still be a mid first rounder, but would it have been better to be a sharp shooting 6th man that gets less of the offensive pie at MU and shoots 40%+ from 3 than what he's doing at Duke?
The season will tell, and it'll be interesting to see if he moves closer to the lottery or further back into late 1st rd territory

Kon is a lot more than just an elite shooter. He'll be a lottery pick because of it. He made the best decision for himself. He'd be awesome at MU as a sixth man. Quite honestly, it'd be exactly what we need. But hoping Owens continues to progress and grab that role.

Playing good teams but losing does nothing imo. 5-2 with all wins against losing teams. Current resume of a 7 seed. No I don't believe Wisconsin is there either but at least they have some good wins.

He's a great player, but lottery pick worthy I'm not quite sure.

I'd reach on him because of his ability to read the game and his knack for getting in a position to get his shot off from 3, an extremely valuable tool in today's NBA.
His ability to drive and finish and the other parts of his game, especially the defensive side, have quite a ways to go and could be exposed at the next level.

That said, I'd like to see him closer to 40% from 3 on decent volume, which is already there, in order to feel more confident if I'm an NBA GM

Ok thanks.

Back to the rankings- 5/6 seems right.

Goodman just posted his list and MU was #4 after Auburn, Kansas, Tennessee with Iowa St and Kentucky behind.

Two top 10ish matchups in the same week, with Marquette ranked in the top 5ish...
Could this be the biggest week of regular season basketball for Marquette in many of our lifetimes, at least rankings wise??
I know it's December, but it's still a heckuva lot of fun.

To add to this- could 2 wins put Marquette in position for #1 overall?
Kansas @ Creighton, Auburn @ Duke, Kentucky @ Gonzaga.

I'd say two wins make it a possibility, and that's some awesome stuff.
Let's get a big roadie in Ames!
