I have enjoyed steakhouses for all my 61y on this planet and still feel like I am going someplace special whenever I hit a steakhouse. A steakhouse always makes me feel like it is a special night out.

Probably, their culture was cancer. Nobody seemed happy and the chef was actively being a dick. Amazing meal though.

Sounds like you may have ended up at Jimmy Kelly's on Louise Street. Old mansion that's an elegant southern dining establishment.

Also where Nashville's Catholic community hangs out.

A second good one is the Southern Steak and Oyster House downtown. Grew up with the owner!

You have apparently never visited a steakhouse in Wisconsin.  I have seen guys walk into one after a day of deer hunting still wearing their camo and blaze orange.
Have some patience, FFS.

In fairness it was their fanciest camo and Orange

OK, FWIW, based on the above recommendation we tried Carbon but they were full on the magical day so we chose Rare. Place looks cool - sort of a modern version of the "old school" steakhouse interior -  nice wine list but not huge/long, excellent food, meh service.  In fact the service was friendly but not competent.  (didn't know the wine list, didn't offer specials, didn't serve wine properly.)

Nevertheless, I'd go back for the food... and probably just sit at the bar!

Anyone try Spicy Taco in West Allis?

Small place, kinda funky.  Full bar and co-located with a gas station on Greenfield.

Super good salsa and fresh homemade chips.  All sauces/salsa are scratch made. Have had tacos and the quesadillas.

Probably seats 15-20 people.

I think Rare is a Tuesday-Thursday place. It's an expense account spot for NM / Baird / Foley types.  No one in MKE chooses that location on the weekend.

If you're looking for a downtown steak, you're not going to do better than Mo's.  It's Milwaukee's best.

El Che Steakhouse in the West Loop. Chef/owner John Mannion was a year behind me at Marquette. Also owns Brasero in Chicago.

Was in Chicago last weekend for my nephew's birthday. We hit up El Che. They rolled out the red carpet for us. Top notch food from start to finish.

Ive heard great stuff about El Che.  We actually had a reservation in summer 2022 then our friends had a family illness so we cancelled our weekend trip down to Chicago and then moved to Florida 2 months later so we never got back.  Bummer.

Speaking of South American inspired steakhouses west of the highway, anyone been to Folklore recently?  I remember going there like 10-12 years ago.  It was fantastic and, at the time, shockingly inexpensive.  Especially for fantastic quality.
