WILD Big East fiasco going on right now.

I havent watched it yet but it is up on YouTube (for now).

https://youtu.be/1SB5KP5s77k?si=sjg59nGjajCIAOC3

To my knowledge the plan was to have a documentary for each Big East school. The creator was unknown (until today).

Below is a MUST READ thread for the no longer anonymous creator.

Threats of legal action, drama, and everything else in between.

So is the story is that John Fanta said something he later regretted in the video?
"I am one of those who think the best friend of a nation is he who most faithfully rebukes her for her sins—and he her worst enemy, who, under the specious and popular garb of patriotism, seeks to excuse, palliate, and defend them" - Frederick Douglass

Why is this causing a fiasco?

there is so many things to read and links to click on. What is the synopsis here?

WarriorDoc

Goodman and Dauster look unbelievably bad IMO. Those DMs are just little dick energy.

withoutbias

So someone or something associated to DePaul actually created some intrigue in the Big East?

Well, there's a first for everything.

Galway Eagle

The doc was mental. They had a PC writer who compared Cooley to Hitler. Dude (allegedly) had an affair and moved to an objectively bigger brand didn't murder anyone.
Numbers to contextualize MUBB:

Really disappointed in Dauster.

Already knew Goodman was a piece of sh!t.

Why is this causing a fiasco?

I haven't watched the doc yet to really know.

If it is still up after work I will try.

There was supposed to be 1 documentary for each school. The apparent goal from the creator was to highlight each school and just how fantastic the Conference is.

They started with Providence and it got mixed reviews. Many loved it. Some disliked it. The subjects they covered were touchy including some of the Cooley rumors for leaving.

It appears that someone possibly said something they later regretted or possibly didn't/no longer want included. Some possibly think that an interviewee was tricked into the whole thing.

Pretty crazy that something a lot were looking forward to got this derailed after the 1st documentary.

Didn't know Goodman was Cooley's PR guy.

Galway Eagle

Squarer is now responding a couple of the mentions he's getting. Should be an entertaining next episode of Field of 68

Goodman is the PR guy FOR A LOT of coaches.  If he's mentioning names for an open position, it's that coaches agent feeding him info to help get their guys raises.  When jobs open, see who he is pimping.  You'll know he's getting insider info from those coaches and their agents on all subjects.

Same with Rothstein.  There's a reason only certain coaches get the Rothsteinisms.  It's like the one strike against Shaka

there is so many things to read and links to click on. What is the synopsis here?

Basically, DePaul fan wants to get attention for the league, so he starts "Big East Films" as an answer the old ESPN Requiem narrative. Plans to do 11 films, one on each program, starting with Providence & the Ed Cooley departure.

Interviews PC fans, a prominent Georgetown blogger, & John Fanta. Some of the interviews get into the salacious details about Cooley's departure, including the affair rumors. I recall hearing at the time that Cooley was having an affair and his wife said she was leaving Providence, with or without him, something to that effect. But it was always just a rumor that no one confirmed.

From what Degen (the DePaul fan) infers, Fanta was sent the full movie once it was done and he said it was great. But then before release, Jeff Goodman starts sending him private messages, saying the filmmaker would go to jail, was going to get sued, all this other stuff.

Connecting the dots, seems like Fanta showed it to Goodman & Dauster, they realized it wasn't good for Cooley's image, then tried to shut it down. Instead, rumors of the Goodman threats leak out (I first heard about the unsolicited DMs a week or two ago), then Degen puts it up on YouTube anyway. The Big East starts looking into legal options because "Big East Films" infringes on their copyright. So Degen thinks "screw it, I'll get as much attention as I can while I can," posts the Goodman messages, and now it's not just a local Providence documentary, it's a national story of a journalist threatening a fan.

At least, that's the gist as I understand it.

Ha! So no one in the actual film has any issue with it at all? Just Goodman and Dauster threatening a situation that really doesn't even involve them? Wild!

Makes a ton of sense, especially given Rothstein's thristy tweets and merchandise he makes a profit off of.

Just seems very odd to get personally offended by the doc so much as to send those DMs. "How do you look in orange?" made me laugh though

Well...I think Fanta realizes being in it might have been a mistake so he's using Goodman and Dauster, who he works with at Field of 68, to be the bullies for him.

It is quite surprising with the position Fanta is in as an announcer on TV, that he would watch the final product and ok it.

Excellent synopsis.  The concept behind BE Films is great and the creator is just trying to fill an obvious void that the conference and its media affiliates have chosen to ignore.  Personally I enjoyed most of "Divine Providence".  I think they could've just left out the unsubstantiated rumors of Cooley having an affair and it still would've been a great documentary from the Providence perspective.  Its sad that we won't get to see 10 more films like it.  If the conference had any foresight though, they or their media partners would produce long form documentaries like DP as I believe its something that the fan bases would really enjoy.

The Sultan

Regardless if the rumors are true, you can't be making a documentary about this and expect the league to say "hey, I think we need more of that."

cheebs09

Was Fanta interviewed for it? It's weird he wouldn't have to clear something like that with the league office. Or is he no longer employed by the Big East and just Fox.
